Audience Member This movie shows the horrors of not taking care of yourself and letting those inner thoughts win. When her son told her that he loved her, it suddenly made all those terrible events hold less meaning. Less of a reason to kill him. Because of this she tames the babadook, and quite literally takes care of it as it hides in the basement. So basically, the same way we push those bad thoughts deep into our mind as to not bring them out. I particularly enjoy how the babadook becomes more powerful each time something bad happens. It’s like suicidal thoughts (which it alludes to in the book the time it shows up at the door). The films shown on the television become more and more disassociated with the current time. They start out with infomercials and dvds, and as she goes through her breakdown we see all these different silent films (particularly the weird early sci-fi stuff) and other non-modern works of art play on the tv. With the Babadook making an appearance or two to really drive it home. Idk I had a great time with this one. This film builds atmosphere wonderfully. I’d say 90% of it takes place in the house. Shows the resourcefulness of the crew, they didn’t have to go waste time searching for all kinds of locations. I’d like to own replicas of the books. Those books. Were. Awesome. 4.5/5 stars. Uma noite, antes de Sam ir dormir, Amelia lê um livro que ele pegou na estante: "O Senhor Babadook". O livro era muito estranho e acabou por causar mais traumas em Sam. A partir daí, a criatura passa a aterrorizar aquela família. É um produção pequena, simples, mas com um roteiro e uma direção muito bons. A direção sabe usar muito bem os efeitos sonoros e as aparições do Babadook nos momentos certos, O filme é uma clara metáfora sobre a depressão, onde o Babadook é aquele ser que habita o inconsciente das pessoas para arrastá-los para cada vez mais baixo. A dupla formada por Essie Davis e Noah Wiseman tem uma química muito boa e eles convencem como mãe e filho. Essie vai mostrando a queda da sua personagem, enquanto Noah consegue passar tanto a fofice quanto a irritabilidade, Babadook, apesar de ter um vilão/criatura, é um filme psicológico, mas tem os seus jump scares e a figura do Babadook é muito icônica.
