Cody Corrall Chicago Reader Jeffrey A. Brown's The Beach House is a daring debut that proves you don't need a big budget to make a captivating cosmic horror film. Jul 14, 2020 Full Review Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle Jeffrey A. Brown truly grasps that what makes this kind of horror work is the sense of corruption - of the surface hiding the menace, whether it be the calm waves above a roiling, toxic ocean, or the skin that is being consumed and degraded from within. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 11, 2020 Full Review Barry Hertz Globe and Mail While its parasitic-invasion storyline and end-of-the-world vibes might not soothe any contemporary nerves, that doesn't make the film any less effective. Jul 10, 2020 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a compelling premise that’s employed to initially compelling yet ultimately disappointing effect... Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 12, 2024 Full Review Brandon Stanwyck InSession Film Liberato is a performer who I can see becoming a perennial casting choice among genre auteurs. Rated: B Jul 17, 2024 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net The Beach House feels more than timely... The pandemic years made time lose much of its meaning. And now the planet itself recoils from our very existence. The Beach House taps into that anxiety and knows precisely which strings to pull. Rated: 4/5 Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Claudio C The Beach House (2019) Strange Horror Movie (11,689 – 12 May 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) Emily (Liana Liberato) and Randall (Noah Le Gros) travel to the beach house of his father to spend the weekend and make amendments in their troubled relationship. The town is deserted, and they have sex and rest until the next day. When Emily goes to the kitchen to have breakfast, she sees a woman and calls Randall. Soon they learn that she is Jane (Maryann Nagel), who is spending vacation with her husband Mitch Turner (Jake Weber) in the house, and they are friends of Randall’s father. They befriend each other and decide to stay together, since the house is big enough for two couples. They drink, have dinner and eat edible marijuana and soon they are all affected by strange behaviors that they believe were caused by the marijuana. Jane and Randall get sick and soon the house is covered by fog. Emily finds a police car and learns that the fog is full of microbes from the underwater rocks released by global warming and people shall not breathe in the fog. Now she fights to survive and save Randall that is sicker. “The Beach House” (2019) is a strange low budget horror movie by Jeffrey A. Brown. The plot is too short, and the pace of the film is too slow to complete 88 minutes running time. The screenplay does not help, maybe because of the pace and the budget. I question whether favorable reviews are honest. My vote is three. Title (Brazil): “A Casa da Praia” (“The Beach House”) My Blog: https://maniacosporfilme.wordpress.com/ Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/15/25 Full Review Audience Member I've seen lifetime movies with better eveyything Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Mandy C Not worth the watch. Terrible. Pointless. Horrible! I'm so bored. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/09/25 Full Review Peter G For fans on lovecraftian horror this is AMAZING! The lead actress is engaging from start to finish Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review Logan D Two college kids head to a beach house for sex and drugs but find it occupied by two old fogies who, thankfully, are up for the latter. What's that on the beach? I enjoyed the idea of this film more than the execution. Liberato plays a character that is studying astrobiology but is unable to deliver her lines as convincingly knowledgeable of the subject. I loved that the characters have somewhat of an excuse for making mistakes as they are on drugs. Some nice set pieces but jump scare fans will be disappointed until the end. It has an ethereal vibe once the drugs hit. One of those films I enjoyed but wished I could've enjoyed more. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/07/23 Full Review _Official W This movie is boring with an even more boring ending! The continuity, the scenes, camera angles, and soundtrack and more for this movie truly is disappointing. This movie had the possibility to be great, and did not live up the the rotten tomatoes score from the critics! The "apocalyptic" event that this movie tried to show was not well thought of and completely embarrassing. Please don't waste your time!!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
