The Boogeyman Reviews

Mar 16, 2025

I found it a little boring and I wasn't really scared at times, but I still enjoyed watching it. It does not do a good job with the horror element, but I felt connected with the characters and wanted to see how their stories played out. Overall, not a good horror movie, but still enjoyable to watch.

Despite the clumsy pacing and some scares that rarely work, The Boogeyman features a talented cast and a very well-crafted dark atmosphere. Sophie Thatcher is the new Scream Queen and her performances are the best since she entered the world of horror. So, if you want to pass the time and not feel dissatisfied, Boogeyman is a pretty interesting choice.

There are so many disappointing films made from Stephen King stories, I wasn’t expecting much from this. But it was genuinely scary, a really well made film with a good story and cast! Restored my faith in King adaptations, give it a go!

Reminded me too much of a lot of other movies

Loosing a family member and especially when it's the motherly love and care that's devastating. And this sorrow and loneliness these two kids feel is cleverly portrayed using a malevolent presence. Trauma that dwells in dark places, clinging onto memories, putting on the dresses of the dead, lift of the screentime ban and avoidance of the widower are the many symptoms of a collective breakdown. And this drama explores the closed closets of the grieving with perfect visuals and emotional audio effects. Sincere performance by the cast. It's a good dose of scares and a great story about recovering from a loss together.

Not having bread, The Stephen King source Material, I looked at this film purely from a film buffs Perspective and found The Scenes with The main creature appearing in the shadows to be very suspenseful due to the use of lighting and ominous music creating a lot of Build Up. With some very solid performances by Sophie Thatcher, And The incredibly talented young actress Vivien Lyra Blair Who I am a huge fan of since watching her in both Game of Thrones and The Last of Us. She’s a very gifted child Actress. I love the way that the creature/boogeyman Not only looked creepy but was also able to mimic human voices adding a human element to its nature making it seem somehow more real than a regular monster Added an extra level of horror to the film. And whilst many people seem to have disliked this film adaptation I found it quite satisfying as far as horror movies go and actually feel it is one of the Better horror movies I’ve seen in a while because from my perspective I feel that most movies that fit into the horror genre are usually quite B Grade Regardless, except for a rare few. So I never have a high expectations going in Meaning that I am rarely disappointed and have grown to become a huge lover of the horror genre in general all in all I would recommend this to anyone who likes A suspenseful creature feature type horror.

I’m a big Stephen King fan, so I gave "The Boogeyman" a shot, but wow, this was disappointing. The plot was generic. It’s like they pulled ideas from every other horror movie, slapped them together, and called it a day. Sure, there are plenty of jumpscares, but most of them don’t land, and the CGI monster was a total letdown. It felt lazy and lacked any creativity; it’s the kind of design you forget five minutes after seeing it. The movie’s only 90 minutes, but even that felt long because it just doesn’t do anything fresh or scary. There’s no real depth to the characters or the monster’s backstory, which is a shame because it could’ve added so much. Honestly, the only good thing here is Sophie Thatcher; she acts her heart out despite the weak script. Overall, this just didn’t work for me. It’s forgettable, uninspired, and not scary at all.

I’m not even sure what to say….. what did I just watch? While this film was loosely based on a short story by Stephen King, I can’t even believe that so he must be upset with this movie as well. Most of the movie was shot in the dark so the audience could barely see anything, and felt very low budget. Outside of the low budget, the acting was nothing spectacular either.

Some characters flaws but it has some great scenes, sometimes i got scared

The cinematic experience is very nice. The HDR really helps the dark atmosphere. From a Story telling standpoint they would be better of making this a short movie as they are many gaps between the interesting scenes and they fail to make a dramatic curve

If you want to spend your time watching a movie where you can't see a thing, go ahead and waste your time.

Would have given it 4 stars if Nathalie received more than a slap.

Boogyman is watchable but there’s absolutely nothing new to see here. There’s a monster that behaves like every monster before, and there are sequences that will and won’t make sense, leaving one wondering why hasn’t the local law enforcement been called and possibly an exterminator.

I loved this movie very much, must see.

Very good atmosphere and tone, plenty of jump scares. Succeeds in being a monster movie that doesn’t break the mold yet manages to make you forget it’s not breaking the mold as it entertains.

A wonderfully designed, well-paced movie. My new favorite horror film! People who cast negative reviews it's way may be too critical of it. It's a simple concept that was executed perfectly!

The story may feel rushed sometimes but the visuals are really something to behold.
