The Colony Reviews

Apr 16, 2025

I'm not sure why this movie didn't get higher ratings. It's kind of a hidden gem. I loved it from before to end. It was exciting and kept you on the edge of your seat quite a lot. I've watched it 3 times and consistently recommend it to people who like that genre. I would give it a chance some parts are a little bloody but it's a good movie.

Not the best but not the worst. I think it’s funny people think they know science as one cannot see their breath when several hundreds of feet beneath the earth’s surface regardless if in ice age type weather or not. You can tell by the presence of liquid water. This is not director laziness as so much evidence would not be apparent. Also one would expect with few people left alive that someone would be stupid and ask the question “do you think this machine still works”. Obviously I know it doesn’t but I’m sure people who watched it thought “does it work?” Expecting an answer. Again not lazy directing just us assuming the best out of the lesser intellectually capable people that are more than likely present in abundance during this type of situation. Lastly, when has Hollywood ever done anything within reason. End of the world overkill scenarios, inbred people that can be stabbed multiple times, even super hero powers have been enhanced over time with Superman being able to fly instead of jump building to building (how impossible is that). If it’s fiction why should it be realistic? It is advertised as a sci-fi action film. So if a mutated humanoid can take a bullet to the head, who am I to judge/argue. I’d watch a documentary or smthng if I expected anything less. People just didn’t like it because it’s Canadian. Don’t listen to the reviews give it a watch. I know I put it off long enough bc of the “bad” reviews.

This movie was great! It got me since the beginning. A survival team on a colony go find out for another colony on a post-apocalyptic winter.

Please don't waste your time. Really. Only way to explain is via SPOILER: In a completely frozen world with permanent snowing weather, a colony, living in a sort of fortress, receives a distress signal from another colony, 3 people leave to investigate. They travel through frozen lands, totally unequipped for the extreme cold. They spend the night inside a helicopter, no fire, no breath mist. They arrive to the colony and, of course, they find a guy that is so confused that he can: - recharge a computer; - show a video of a guy who fixed a weather tower to get the weather warm again and asking for seeds to plant; - say they sent a team to find the guy; - say that some random people followed back; BUT he cannot say the fricking word "CANNIBALS"!!! So the 3 people go looking for the random people, of course, find them butchering people of the colony and start a little a show where cannibals look at them hissing, almost unarmed, and got easily shot because they are nothing more than simpletons. BUT of course, somehow, cannibals can put some heavy difficulty on the 3 people armed with guns and rifles… One of the 3 survives and manages to escape and go back to his colony, after a night spent in the extreme cold and snow, while the 20 cannibal simpletons, some of them almost naked, easily follow his traces (that snow didn't covered) and arrive to the colony. Inside the colony there's an idiot who performed a coup d'etat and doesn't believe the only survivor (who cannot say the fricking word "CANNIBALS"!!!), so the 20 cannibal simpletons, of course, are able to destroy reinforced steel doors only with pipes and blades and go inside bringing havoc amongst people heavily armed. A lot of people die uselessly, the boss of the cannibals doesn't die after being hit 30 times on the head with an iron weapon but, in the end, he got beheaded. Survivors decide to travel to the warm area.

Original and underrated. I wish there was a sequel.

Way better than the latest, sci-fi movie-series that have been released lately.

Good cast, bad movie.

Péssimo! Previsível! Fraco! Raso!

Lazy writing. Someone asks "Do ya think that still works?" referring do a giant piece of equipment that has been frozen for decades and plenty have people have walked by. Then someone asks "what is that?" umm. it's obviously a dead frozen body. not much else it could be. lazy writing. How do we make sure the good guy can't help?: cuff him to a medical bed. Never seen that before. why does guy just decide to run off in the complete opposite direction from where is mates are, who have guns? not sure. Lawrence Fishburne is the only saving grace.

A straight forward decent post apocalyptic action film that is really saved by its winter frozen atmosphere.

I really like the storyline & the setup but many seem not fans, just freezing budget production on but enjoyable.

Vale apena assistir? Se não tiver outra opção. Nota: 6

Well-done action movie - that was almost 10 years before the outbreak of Covid and added climate change effects with fear of pandemic. It's very possible that it will be forgettable. Critics just noted it was a Canadian effort to make Hollywood-style sci-fi and weren't too "hot" about this adventure that happens all in the snow. I am less critical.

I had many problems with this movie, but first and foremost was the weather. I live in Northern Canada. Winters can be harsh, really harsh. Wind, snow, -50 temperatures. Exactly what these people are supposed to be dealing with. But taking refuge in a plane overnight in the wind, would not prevent your breathe from showing when you spoke, nor, without heat you dying of hypothermia in an 8 to 12 hour period. and there is no way, those ZOMBIES could follow their tracks, the wind erases them in minutes. And Sam finally being unable to continue 100 feet from home. No frostbite on bares kin after hours out there. SOOOO STUPID, Plus its a stupid movie.

This wasn’t even the colony I intended watching but I liked it 3.3

Meh, not bad but not good. Nothing much to say abou it. Simple, predictable and nothing over the top. Post apocalyptic genre where society has been ravaged. Being such an exploited genre, something innovative has to be presented, and sadly the colony has not been able to offer it.

Slow nothingness that fails to engage... but the feral berserker cannibals were fun.

Awful!!! Such a way of time!!! The movie is nothing but bloody cruel killing scenes!

I was so dissapointment with this film. I love Laurence Fishburne and I really like these settings; isolation, lone facilities, lots of ice. I usually find them atmospheric. But this just felt felt like a whole lot of nothing happening.
