Critics Consensus

The Endless benefits from its grounded approach to an increasingly bizarre story, elevated by believable performances by filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Unfortunately the filmmakers introduce a sci-fi element in the second half that deflates much of the interpersonal tension and shifts the focus from the subtleties of mind control to the vagaries of time and space. Mar 5, 2020 Full Review Robert Daniels 812filmreviews The biggest lesson of The Endless is how we can allow our lives to loop around in one crappy cycle until we cop out. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 31, 2018 Full Review Kambole Campbell One Room With A View Despite an imaginative concept, the narrative feels surprisingly bland, even when the pieces begin to fall into place - and when there's no quick punchline to fall back on, the film suffers. Rated: 2/5 Aug 25, 2018 Full Review Ankit Ojha Cinema Elite In trademark Benson-Moorhead fashion, the film is a genre-fluid experience that boldly chooses not to be bound by horror restrictions, instead allowing its viewers to relate to the emotion that hits home the hardest. Rated: 4.5/5 Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Alachia Queen Alachia Queen This independent film is a unique balance between Lovecraftian world building, the intimacies of family dynamics, and the horrors of the personal limitations. Rated: A May 6, 2022 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts I felt like it was very confusing about the whole history behind the boys... but I do feel like there is some great production value in there. Audience Member I can appreciate the indie aesthetic, and they both give solid performances, but this is just YouTube quality work here with a story that thinks it's way smarter than it is. I tried being patient with it and waiting for some payoff, but the film goes down an entirely different path in the second half, switching into sci Fi with zero warning, just to help extend this mess into a feature length film. This film is more evidence pointing to the reality that RT lost it's value by allowing every joe schmo to be a "critic." Save yourself the time wasted and skip this dud. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Robert H Horrible acting. Weak story. No character development. Hard to get through and no payoff if you do. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Audience Member This movie made me want to get a vasectomy so my kids don’t have to watch it Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Audience Member I wanted to kill myself just like they did Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Christian H I had no expectations when it came to this movie. It was on Prime or Hulu or something and I just put it on to pass the time. I ended up liking it a lot actually. I like the dialogue a lot throughout the movie and I’d watch it again for sure. I was very pleasantly surprised! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Michelle S Been a long time since I couldn't make it through more than a third of a movie. Absolutely terrible. The writing, the acting, the cinematography. Thanks for sending me barking up this very wrong tree, RT reviewers. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Read all reviews
