Very poor. I have no idea why Lilly James and Christopher Plummer agreed to do this what seems like a low budget, poorly made film. The romance seems very forced, the ending poor. Nothing here worth watching.

I loved this movie. Two strong hearts, minds and wills. Great cast. Beautiful love story.

I loved its story, its cast, the performances, but the open ending left me with doubts, I want to hope for a happy ending but times were different back then. Lily James and Jai Courtney are the couple with the most chemistry I've ever seen, I want more films of them together as a couple 💖

Instead of creating a close portrayal of Kaiser Wilhelm II, with one of the absolute best acting performers in the business in a true leading role, The Exception makers got carried away into a romantic soapish kind of secret agent, and not particularly exciting WW2 thriller, where the actual historical events play a very diminshed part. The result is that the total just ends up with quite a lot less of both, neither good history or fiction. Nevertheless, though it didn't really become one of his last great film roles, Christopher Plummer still stands out and saves the day.

The Exception tells an interesting story through the outstanding performances of its talented cast supported by beautiful cinematography and costume design. This period drama captures the essence of the time in which it's set by being attentive to the details in all aspects. It also succeeds in highlighting the drama, mystery, and romance of its plot.

Plummer's movie all the way! He does the impossible by making Kaiser Whilhelm II lovable, even though the actual man started WWI, a horrible bloodbath for all concerned. It's definitely worth a watch!

An extraordinary positive surprise and one incredibly beautiful movie. Must see.

I thought it was ok overall as it was interesting about the German Monarchy before Hitler took over during WWII, but not an exciting movie until the final 20 minutes.

For the first time in a while, I'm aligned with the Critics' Consensus! This is a perfect marriage of romance and drama, with immaculate settings and costume design. The performances and writing are what elevate this and hold it up as something quite special. I'd not expected much when I pressed play, but I'm glad I was proven wrong

Plummer saves the day!

As a WWII buff, I enjoyed the historical setting and characters. However, the main plot with the main characters was just another movie romance. In the end, I think this movie was not as good as it could have been.

This works as both a solid romance film and a war drama. While it has a few moments that aren't all that interesting, it is boosted by the performances of Christopher Plummer and Lily James.

Nice movie, some parts were a little bit boring,but a great movie tho. You should watch it.

Top notch cast with a plausible but noncompelling pllot, script and direction

A beautiful love story sets on a backdrop of the World War II and is supported by a talented ensemble and a well written script. How did this movie elude me for so long?

It was pretty bad. When you have the kind of gratuitous sex scenes as here, you know there's little else going on because the scenes added nothing to the nothing that was already going on. Really bad use of what otherwise are known as excellent actors. Making a bad movie of such a serious subject as Nazi Germany is especially egregious. Very disappointing. Lily James as a British spy was more than a bit of a stretch and unconvincing. The two people who end up committing to get married after exchanging all of about 10 words with each other and having demeaning sex in their very first encounter without exchanging literally anything other than 'Hello' - well that defying all credibility even in wartime circumstances where we're willing to stretch credibility. Can't overstate state how terribly disappointing.

I'm pretty tough to please when it comes to movies but this one was exceptionally good. I was totally drawn into the story line and the characters from the start and there wasn't a dull moment. I love Lily James and she was her usual appealing self in this but also very sexy. The chemistry worked between her the lead guy, who was also very convincing. Christopher Plummer and Janet McTeer were great and the story was well crafted and for a romance I thought it believable enough to work. The cinematography and lighting were beautiful and the actors and the sets all looked gorgeous. Best movie I've seen in a while.

A lovely historical film.

At exactly 13 minutes into the movie and I rolled my eyes and walked away. That type of sex scene = immediate turn off.
