The Forever Purge Reviews

This fifth installment has no reason to exist. [Full review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 4/5 | Jan 18, 2024

Dadly the most forgettable one yet. Cool idea, some actually really unique set pieces , & even two good leads that I could get behind, but the rest of it all? Feels very tame & not as crazy in comparison to the other films.

It’s a decently fun movie that hints towards a whole new Purge storyline in the future, but in the grand scheme of things, it isn’t anything revolutionary.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 25, 2023

The Forever Purge is another powerfully political piece of action horror art from the hit franchise, drawing on our current social strife for its scares.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Sep 1, 2022

It’s when DeMonaco begins pounding his pulpit with the subtlety of a sledgehammer that things unravel. At times his dialogue is laughably blunt and his message so brazenly in-your-face that you can’t help but roll your eyes.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Aug 17, 2022

The Forever Purge is simply the latest in this never-ending franchise to leverage the deep-seated unease in a politically divided America to peddle exploitative power fantasies.

A dark, violent film with its own personality within the saga. [Full review in Spanish]

In a world of countless entertainment options, feel free to skip this one.

There are genuine, talented individuals working on the film and their skill does show, but the film's insistence on cheap and lackluster politics is not just problematic but also out of place.

Director Everardo Gout handles the action with the kinetic, entertaining violence the Purge movies usually employ. That's part of the problem.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Feb 12, 2022

The Forever Purge broke some of its own rules in the same way that it breaks the rules of the Purge itself.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Feb 12, 2022

With a concept this stagnant, The Forever Purge has successfully done what other horror movies have never been able to do; make deaths, murdering, and killing a total bore.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 14, 2021

It's a shame the substance dissolves into long passages of bland action and stream of generic blood splatters. [Full Review in Spanish]

After a slightly underwhelming prequel in 2018, The Forever Purge is a strong and well-paced return to form for the series.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Oct 1, 2021

For those who by now feel like screaming at the top of their lungs about certain current cultural ills and agree with what The Forever Purge is saying, this may be at least a little cathartic.

| Original Score: B | Sep 30, 2021

The Purge is one of the most lucrative horror franchises with the fewest amount of good entries.

De la Reguera is the heart of this film as she fights for her life trying to get into American and then, ironically, trying to get back out.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Sep 27, 2021

As an action-horror, it only sporadically sparks into life, threatening to go full Saw at one point, but eventually settling for a series of uninspired scraps and scrapes on the journey to Mexico.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Sep 21, 2021

THE FOREVER PURGE is one of the best films of the entire series. It's tight, focused, and it does away with a lot of the extraneous myth-making scenes that many of the previous incarnations have spent much more time on.

| Sep 14, 2021

The reality these movies supposedly mirror is far too banal in its evil. The real powers that be hardly require an annual orgy of violence to perpetuate their control.
