Critics Consensus

Mixing multiple genres, The Gorge makes for a surprisingly endearing romance until its action-thriller obligations steer proceedings back onto a more predictable path.

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News The special effects are quite good, but “The Gorge” doesn’t scale the goofy heights in a rollercoaster ride way that it thinks it does, stalling out with a hackneyed ending that makes you shrug your shoulders and want to move on to something better. Rated: 2/4 Mar 3, 2025 Full Review Zachary Lee Chicago Reader The romance, as saccharine as it may be, is an endearing throughline, anchoring the film as it oscillates between its genres. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Benjamin Lee Guardian Despite looking like it was based on a video game that your younger brother obsessively plays, The Gorge is in fact an original, or whatever that word means when the plot and aesthetic feel like they’ve been stitched together from so many other films. Rated: 2/5 Feb 14, 2025 Full Review Pete Vonder Haar Houston Press Love in the time of Cordyceps. Rated: 3/5 Apr 5, 2025 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film The Gorge is essentially cut scenes from every World War II zombie video game you've ever seen. It has the same basic plotting, and is wholly derivative in its visuals and world building. Rated: C- Apr 4, 2025 Full Review Nicholas Bell Fish Jelly Films (YouTube) An intriguing genre hybrid with compelling conspiracy concepts unfortunately suffocates beneath derivative flourishes, video game aesthetics and poorly structured characterizations. But Sigourney Weaver looks fantastic. Rated: 2/5 Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member A decent movie to kill some time, I'm glad it came out on streaming and not in the theaters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Alexander V One of those movies that would've been a decent cinema success in the days before streaming. Tiny but effective cast, good chemistry between the leads. Some minor plot holes but it's very enjoyable for what it is: A mix between Pitch Black and Annihilation with a romance thrown in for good measure Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Sara G This was a truly terrible movie. Everything about it. Please, I beg of you, skip this one. Save yourself. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Obi-wan K Not bad kinda entertaining Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Nikita Niknaks J The Gorge is a gripping cinematic experience that masterfully combines heart-pounding action, deep emotion, and surprising tenderness. It hooks you from the opening scene and never lets up. The narrative fearlessly explores trauma, connection, and redemption, paired with stunning visuals and a haunting soundtrack. The cast delivers authentic, compelling performances, grounding even the wildest moments. The direction strikes a perfect balance between thrilling sequences and poignant, introspective moments, giving the film remarkable depth. It’s both exhilarating and profound, appealing to fans of suspense, rich characters, or fresh storytelling. The Gorge lingers long after the credits. My partner and I loved it, chuckling at the quirky romance blossoming amidst the chaos of a hellish battlefield. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Ian G This is one of those astonishingly bad movies that make you wonder “how did this get made”? You watch for a while because you cannot look away, like a car accident. The fact that there are positive reviews at all has made me think there’s some kind of conspiracy going on. It’s really horrendous, unwatchable. It makes you think it is based on a video game, but it is not. We started watching because Apple is pushing is aggressively. If I dissuade one person from watching it I will have done a good deed. It does not get better if you keep watching. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Read all reviews
