The Gospel of John Reviews
A great movie to watch with friends and family. It brings the gospel to life!
This movie reproduces verbatim the text of the Gospel of John in the Good News translation. By itself not a bad idea. Even though the movie looks more like a Shakespeare drama, it is bearable because the actors do in fact perform the text as if it were a Shakespeare drama. The acting is well done. Some scenes are bordering on the rediculous or the sentimental. But for Christian believers this movie offers a more or less faithful representation of what the Gospel itself tells us. I am sure non-believers would find it dull. And believers may find it inspiring. One could not expect it to be a fantasy movie or an action movie. it is more a drama of a high classical character. But it is interesting that some of the dramatic dialogues that Jesus had with His opponents do really show the enormous impact that Jesus must have had.
Aside from "The Passion of the Christ" produced by Mel Gibson, this is probably the most faithful adaptation of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. It's almost a word-for-word translation of the Gospel of John with the exception of Mary Magdalene still dressed as a harlot after her conversion when accompanying Jesus and his disciples throughout Christ's travels, and her presence at the Lord's Supper, which is not in agreement with any of the four gospels of the New Testament. This film highlights the ministry of Christ and focuses on His message of repentance. The acting, locations used, soundtrack, and narration (Christopher Plummer) is superlative. I recommend this movie to Christians and unbelievers alike due to the sheer quality of this production and true story because it does not includes the typical Hollywoodesque rewriting of history in their usual creative license to make films of Christ "more palpable" to the casual viewer.
Excellent. The best and most accurate jesus movie. I just bought the DVD. Just live it.
Vale apena assistir? Sim a todas as pessoas, que devem conhecer a Verdade. Nota: 9
As of 2023 the best Christian film of all time, and the best depiction of Jesus. With their ‘criticisms' of this film, whose script is literally scripture without additions or omissions, these critics have inadvertently revealed their inner core to the world. The result? They have been panned. The musical score deserves to be recognised by film music lovers and if you only add a more ethnically diverse cast, you have an almost perfect christian film. Deeply touching, affecting and spiritually informing movie.
It is word for word the scripture and wonderfully done . Awesome movie
The best and most moving depiction of the NT to date (although The Chosen also fantastic). Ignore the critics. They are motivated to be cynical. It's a captivating and beautiful film
In this movie, it goes through a narration of the story of Jesus’ life and his miracles, which was described by John, one of his disciples from the New Testament book of John. The narration starts with John the Baptist as he was preparing for Jesus and presents Him. We than experience his journey with the disciples, and teaching them everything. We also see the amazing miracles He has done. The main characters throughout the movie were Jesus with his disciples, John, Philip, Judas, Thomas and Andrew. As well with his mother Mary, Martha and Mary (the sisters) along with their brother (Lazarus). Lastly, he went through the process of his crucifixion, and his resurrection. I personally think that the movie was accurate with the majority of His story and the Gospel of John. The script is on point! They gave Jesus the accurate character of merciful, compassionate, wise, loving, justice and much more. They gave good amount of representation of his life with the disciples, his miracles, his teachings, but it is a bit off with His crucifixion along with resurrection. Although most of it is very accurate to me, there are still some scenes and details missing, which I still think that those details they are still important and they are mostly known in the story. Like how in the movie, The Last Supper is eaten before the beginning of Passover, while He is actually supposed to eat a Passover meal soon before he dies. They also missed him praying in the garden. And they did not show him of resurrection while returning to the disciples. They also did not show Judas fleeing away after betraying Jesus, and hanging himself. But overall, this is accurate and related with what was taught in World Religions. This all shows his true relationship with his group of disciples “the twelve”.
He does a very good job of playing Jesus. The movie is uplifting, kind and, dare I say, powerful. As a believer in the Lord, it blessed me. I recommend it wholeheartedly. However, please read the gospels in John, Matthew, Mark, and Luke in the Bible for absolute Truth. Overall I say good job!
Gospel about as popular with the "critics" as Jesus was with the Sanhedren. Script taken word for word from the Holy Bible. Panned. All you need to know.
As a religious person I know the story inside out, I watched it on Easter because oh well you get the idea right? Anyway the narration kind of took away Jesuses character, as a viewer I did not feel that close to him. Other than that enjoyable ... oh Henry Ian Cusik, you were great Jesus brothaaaaa
Best "Gospel of" movie made to date. Mr.Cusick played an excellent Jesus and his costars were exceptional with making me feel like I was a witness to a beautiful and tragic story of one of the greatest men who ever lived. If you are a non-believer you may have some difficulty with its length but I say put yourself out there and give it a watch. You will know 30 mins whether this is a movie for your taste.
Great movie full of the actual word of God and faithful to the scriptures. Nicely done and visually pleasing.
This is a wonderful movie and an accurate rendition of the New Testament Gospel of John. It is not a scripted woek of mans imagination which seems to displease many of the critics below but quite frankly, I don't believe God cares what they think.
One of the best presented depictions of the most important time in the history of the creation, God visiting, living among, and saving Hs people from sin and death, by faith in this man Jesus. If people would realize the message of this life, they would not hesitate to embrace their Creator! All others WILL die in their sin and forego the future realm of life unimaginable to present mankind. I watch this movie every week, it IS blessing!
