Tedious beyond endurance.

I really enjoyed it. Great casting. The story needs to be seen about how important the Coast Guard is.

The story follows Ben Randall, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer played by Kevin Costner. After a life-changing tragedy, he decides to become a mentor to new cadets, confronting his own demons while trying to pass on his hard-earned knowledge. Among these recruits is Jake Fischer, an arrogant young man trying to prove himself while dealing with his own past. The connection between the two actors carries much of the film, though at times it feels predictable. What really stands out are the rescue scenes. They’re shot with tension and realism, making you feel the vastness of the sea and the constant danger. However, when the film shifts focus to personal relationships and the drama on land, it falls into familiar territory. The classic dynamic of the seasoned mentor and the rebellious trainee has been done many times before, and here it doesn’t bring anything fresh. Despite this, the film manages to deliver some emotional moments. The Guardian starts off strong with an engaging introduction that pulls you into the world of elite rescue swimmers. The setup is solid, and the first act does a great job establishing the stakes. But once the second act kicks in, the momentum slows down as the focus shifts almost entirely to training sequences. While these moments have some depth and character development, they drag on too long, making the story feel repetitive. The plot itself follows a familiar formula, and while it has emotional weight, it doesn't bring much originality. It feels like it's trying to be Top Gun for the Coast Guard but without the same energy or unpredictability. That said, the movie is well-executed on a technical level. The cinematography captures the intensity of ocean rescues with some visually striking sequences. The direction is solid, and the pacing is decent. Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher both deliver strong performances, with Costner bringing a grounded, believable presence to his role. The script is good overall, even if some parts feel a bit too by-the-numbers. The score and sound design do their job well, adding tension and emotion where needed. Warning- you will likely cry. But its a GREAT move

One of my favorite movies of all-time. Kevin Costner is perfect in this film. Great and funny lines.

It has a lot of scenes I really like, but I find this movie pretty forgettable

I really enjoyed this film. Both Kevin Costner and Ashton kutcher do a great job.

The only negative thing in this movie was astin kocher. He was terrible, but this movie is enlightening, when it comes to the coast guard. NRJ.

Um grupo de elite de salva-vidas americano, onde conta a estória, treinamento e desafios desta profissão. Temos Bem (Kevin) que é o veterano que recebeu o maior número de horarias da historia. E Jake (Ashton) que é o novo recruta. E logo eles tem o seus embates, como diz o quanto mais parecidos pode acontecer os maiores atritos, até se alinhaem e claro isso acontecerá no final do filme. Vemos que Costner gosta do mar, pois ele também fez o filme WaterWorld, um sucesso da década de 90. Temos Ben com crise em seu relacionamento e prestes a se aposentar, mas sue chefe lhe manda para a escola de cadetes e com seu estilo severo acaba tendo seus embates com Jake. E temos também Jack que instrutor. Assim o filme avança ao estilo Homens de Honra. Até que chega ao clímax do final onde Ben já esta aposentado e quando esta arrumando suas coisas ouve através do rádio que a equipe de socorrista esta tendo problemas no resgate, então ele vai para ajudar no meio de uma enorme tempestade. Bons efeitos especias trazendo realismo ao filme. E em um final trágico onde para salvar a Jake, Ben se sacrifica. É um final que não gostamos de ver no fim dos filmes. Uma boa atuação dos atores. Roteiro e enredo bons e bem executados, trazendo o realismo a necessários. Vale apena assistir? Sim com certeza. Nota: 8

This film is OK. Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner give good performances, the plot is good for the most part but it is let down by a cheesy ending and a cliché moment that didn't have the emotional impact the film was hoping for.

Movies at sea generally float my boat, especially those with a goodly amount of action and threat. This has elements of both, but lacks the undercurrent suspense that comes from well-developed characters and a strong story

Really enjoyed this movie. I'm a sucker for build up confrontations in buddy movies. Definitely one of my favorites over the last ten years.

Fun, unique and with relatable Cathay cuter personal lives. It's formulaic yes, but not meant to be a serious watch.

There are some films that don't live up to memory and expectations upon re-watch. When I first saw The Guardian, I remember leaving the theater in awe, convinced that it was the best film I had ever seen. As I finished watching it, now 15 years later, I am confident that it is still one of the best films that I have ever seen. The story was crafted beautifully with each storytelling point having purpose and payoff in the end. The acting was the best of Ashton Kutcher's career and his bond with Kevin Costner was executed flawlessly. Their performances allowed for there to be true symmetry in each of their stories and a perfect blend of respect and tension between mentor and student. With the rescue swimmer's motto of "So Others May Live" accompanied by the gorgeous score replaying in my ear, I find myself drawn to a film full of pain, love, and sacrifice.

Top Gun but swimming

I don't know why this movie is so hard to find. It doesn't pop up here on Rotten Tomatoes and Google. I like the story. It keeps me engaged. The acting is good. The story might be over the top but I like it.

Watch it every year. Great entertainment and awesome ending. Love the score of the movie too.
