Williams has a lot of talent but there is nothing she can do with this.

A charming, fun, and brief little breakup rom com that ultimately ends up feeling a bit vapid. As a Netflix rom com, I think you sort of know what you're getting here. The lead characters are good, it prods you to believe in yourself above all else (regardless of its practicality), and it doesn't care much for consequences or any messiness. Long story short - it's a carefree and pretty good movie.

This Strouse, woah! He's full of surprises! For real though! This movie was a blast, mostly thanks to Jessica Williams who plays Jessica James in the film. She has quite the energy... If you really want to see something from him, though, I'd rather recommend People Places Things, because I find the plot to be more robust and less sparse. Probably the thing that can be appreciated the most, without a doubt, is Williams's performance. The character suits her really well and she can spark in every scene, I found her to be the embodiment of enjoyment. Also, to me, the movie was shot in a nicer way than People Places Things, a few scenes here and there tried to be different and bolder (for example the opening scene with the close up of the faces of the characters). As somebody said in his review, this is no game changer, Strouse is no genius and is not reinventing the genre. Although, his movies are always fresh, in a way, bold characters, dry dialogues (that are not always the best and it is particularly noticeable in this one) and themes that are not easy to work with.

Lighthearted, upbeat and mostly pointed while still being funny, "The Incredible Jessica Williams" is an enjoyable take on a young single black woman trying to make it as a playwright in NYC while also getting over one relationship and starting another. Don't read too much in to it, just enjoy.

I absolutely loved this one. I honestly started watching it with near zero expectations, but loved the characters, and the complexity of each. It's a light watch, and totally worth it!

Had some great banter between Jessica Williams and Chris O'Dowd. The hallucinatory appearances of LaKeith Stanfield were great. Jessica carries the movie well. Some corniness with the teaching children plot-line and the ending, but overall a fun worthwhile movie.

Found 1 second tolerable. I like Chis O'Dowd usually. Main character is a pompous disgusting individual.
