The Kid Detective Reviews
Move over MYSTERY TEAM, a movie with substance I truly enjoyed this movie. Adam Brody is wonderful, as always, and the director (Evan Morgan) is finally stepping into his own path. His previous credit was The Dirties, which I didn't really like that much, but respected for what it was. In the same vein, it takes a dark subject matter and provides light to it, before winding down into a strong ending message. The detective work in this one is what really drew me to the story. I've been reading a lot of detective novels, and this one really followed a great pace with those. The humor also really brought a lot of bonus entertainment. It begins as being almost comparable to Mystery Team (2009) but strays away from the formula little by little until the end reveal which is just a complete shocker. Sure, I should have seen it coming. Great movie.
Slow, stupid, funny parts not funny, dramatic parts not dramatic - overall a total wet sponge. Meh.
Good, what I think/hope is an original screenplay! It feels as if it as a coming of age aspect to it as Adam Brody’s character starts to come to terms with reality as it is and not as he perceives it. Does a great job of making you laugh and honestly feel emotion. It wasn’t really predictable either. The soundtrack was well done as it adds to the quirky and serous tones used throughout. A great job of pacing and not adding too much extra fluff to pad its run time. Definitely worth a watch!
Adam Brody does a good job as the failed detective with finally a serious crime to investigate. It's got a nice feel to the film, it kept me interested and wanting Abe to succeed. Certainly worth a watch.
Great story telling and adventure. Mystery, Fun, and drama. I love movies like this. I definitely recommend watching if you’re a mystery fan. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It's an enjoyable enough watch. Some of it is very predictable; but they stick a couple of surprises in to make it more interesting. Adam Brody does a good job with what he has to work with. It's not a movie I will stop on when channel surfing; but it is definitely worth a watch.
I saw this movie mentioned online and watched it in Aug 2024. This is a great movie and one I will recommend to people.
Excellent movie. Starts off lighthearted, then the dark comedy kicks in. This one stayed with me for awhile.
I did not expect the turn of events. Actors are great. Story is great. It reminded me of Room but i think this is more twisted. Tackles on not only the abducted victim, the murdered, the daughter which is the next victim but also the victim of the emotional turmoil and heavy guilt which is the main hero of the film. And the ending scene really shows that. When he also found himself and released himself finally.
How did I miss this one? Shame on me.
3.90. Great dry, subtle humor with an engaging ostensibly harmless premise that takes a turn you will not expect.
A riveting, twisting story of a young man confronting a murder involving a kidnapping and rape of a child. Low key and affecting...
Mediocre and trivial. Adam Brody carries an otherwise dull script that is easily the most banal film I've ever seen. Find and see the movie "Brick" instead.
The premise is better than the execution.
Excellent storytelling for a loveable yet pitiable protagonist. Takes an unexpected and disturbing turn in the climax.
Simplemente una verdadera obra maestra .
A career best for Brody.
Wacky comedy on par with the nice guys, I've watched it like 3 times so far
One of the best of 2020! Great screenplay, excellence performance from Brody in a script written specifically to his strengths; this noir comedy is one not to be missed. This movie nails the third act, excelling were similar movies fail. Overlooked, but should have been in the awards discussion. Canadian note- funded, produced, and shot entirely in Ontario, featuring brilliant supporting performances by local (and largely unknown) actors. Evan Morgan, alongside his "The Dirties" co-writer Matt Johnson (see Blackberry) is helping to put Canadian filmmaking on the map.
