The Mind's Eye Reviews
Kinda corny but watchable and quick 2.2
I liked the throwback feel to the movie with the lighting, gore effects, and soundtrack but the production value, acting, and plot seemed to be lacking.
Dude that was awesome.Such a tense movie. A film in league with the likes of the first Scanners. Very brutal sci fi horror thriller.
Painful acting, throw-away dialogue and budgetary restraints are all on display. Can be played in background while loading your dishwasher.
Good idea... This was supposed to be like a remake of the scanners.... This was not. Watch Scanners, skip this one.
Pretty cool little Scanners throwback. Nothing really unique or noteworthy in it, but if you like these kind of movies, you should dig it. It has an awesome score too.
There are some absolutely phenomenal pieces in The Mind's Eye. The synth score, the premise, the neon, the throwback references and the frequently STUNNING practical effects. Unfortunately it's too unfocused and poorly acted to be fully realised in its entirety.
Really cool! This is basically like a mix of Scanners and Stranger Things. I'd recommend this if you liked either.
With a few cool visual moments, and great use of practical effects all get wasted in this mostly boring and forgettable sci fi/action/thriller hybrid.
Movie, director, and some of the cast have a lot of potential, but the repetitive staring, straining, and grunting don't merit the 60% tomatometer.
The Minds eye is a movie that pays great homage to the cult classic 1980s movie Scanners, It succeeds for what it sets out to accomplish, violent thrills, never ending gore and practical filmmaking. Its like looking in the past remembering that horror movies don't have to be just about strong plot elements but strong sequences that don't necessarily need to make you jump but make you feel thrilled by disgust. This movie is a reminder to a time where horror was for simple fun/
This is one of the worst films I have seen in 2016. While the film had good ideas and clear inspiration from David Cronenberg's "Scanners" (a horror classic), it fails to deliver on every fundamental part of making a film. Sure there are neat lighting techniques and uses on practical effects, but that's honestly all this film has.
An affectionate homage (though some less charitable viewers might be more likely to consider it a rip-off) to the psychokinetic horror films of the 1970s and '80s; things like CARRIE, THE FURY, SCANNERS, and even FIRESTARTER are pretty explicitly part of this story's vocabulary. This isn't a modernization of the concept, or a deconstruction, it's a genuine and serious attempt to make a movie with that tonal flavor, and it's mostly successful. The telekinesis subgenre has mostly been dormant for the last few decades, which gives THE MIND'S EYE an interesting and unique flavor to offer. It's a very low-fi movie, but that feels appropriate both for the subject matter and the aesthetic approach being implemented (which seeks to remind viewers of the early works of Cronenberg and Carpenter). The movie is well-shot (from a camerawork perspective), despite the obvious ultra-low budget. Skipper and Carter are very solid leads, both being emotionally convincing. THE MIND'S EYE isn't perfect (at times it might feel way too familiar to those well-versed in the back catalog of similar movies), but it's a fun attempt to bring back a kind of movie that hasn't been made in a long time.
Where do I begin? I'm sure there are reasons the movie was acted so poorly - as to pay homage to 80's horror movies. But I don't care. It's horrible. The actors aren't likable and don't appear to have one redeeming quality. In short, you don't care about them. But still, even if you did, the dialogue and cheesy effects would quickly bring the viewer back to reality.... It's a bad movie. I wish I would have enjoyed it. I look forward to new movies and, ones with powers of any sort, are a plus. The only power shared in this movie was how they stole 1.5 hours of my life.
