The Night Clerk Reviews
One could feasibly argue that this feels somewhat like a 21st century version of Hitchcock's REAR WINDOW. Except for the original's suspense. And style. And direction. And performances. Etc... As much as I hate remakes, the idea of a new REAR WINDOW is very appealing to me, considering the advances in technology since 1954 when the only means of spying was a pair of binoculars. But back to the film at hand. This is a D.O.A drag of a movie with no chills or thrills or any sense of fun. I also question the reason why the filmmakers felt it necessary to give the main character Asperger's syndrome. While I don't think it necessarily feels exploitative, it also adds nothing to the story itself and with a few tweaks could have easily been changed. Sheridan feels over the top to me, but not personally knowing anyone with this malady, I am hesitant to judge the performance. And I really hate to admit this because it's very judgmental of me, but I was distracted anytime Hunt came onscreen because I'm concerned about the amount of plastic surgery she has had. The performance being quite shrill didn't help matters any. I actually really love the concept here, which I think is full of potential, but this feels lazy and uninvolving without a single second of pulse-raising intensity.
Not the most suspenful film but was having Ana de Armas in there was good enough for me.
An easy watch that kept me intrigued to the end. Tye Sheridan was very convincing portraying somebody socially awkward with Asperger Syndrome. Helen Hunt was also very good as the concerned mother. I felt it ended slightly premature, I would have like to have seen just a little bit more of the aftermath of the arrest.
The film as its plot is interesting until almost the end where literally everything is ruined with a hideous, useless and practically meaningless ending, with the ending a very good film with an original and disturbing idea is destroyed and that had managed to create a good atmosphere, really a horrendous shame about the ending.
*Slight spoilers* One of the most unappealing things in the world, that I can think of, is for John Leguizamo to chew gum with his mouth open while asking me the question "Do you think about sex?" Gross misconduct. Tye Sheridan is fine. Ana de Armas is great in everything. This movie seems like it's going to offer something big and off the wall, but it really comes out rather boring. The finale even seems like it's going to give you a twist, but then it's just Sheridan walking in a mall. Very underwhelming.
The biggest problem in this is Tye Sheridan's portrayal of a man with Aspeperger's that witnesses a murder. The movie has an interesting premises-Asperger employee spies on hotel guests and witnesses a murder. John Leguizamo is very good and likable as a detective investigating the case. Ana De Armas is always appealing as a guest who understands Sheridan's issues. Helen Hunt is awkward, at best, as the Mom. I like the princess and the story. I like the actors. Sheridan is normally good but not believable in this role. He is doing an impression and it is weak. The Direction and Cinematography are average. This one could have been much better.
This movie begged for some very needed direction, it almost felt like it was shot without one. Unless Michael Cristofer (the director) was going for a CC온라인카지노추천 look, inducing his own audience into voyeurism by creating bland, boring, digitally shot scenes. You know...prying on the pryer or maybe i'm over thinking and the movie is just simply awful.
Reasonably well done and entertaining.
I don‘t understand why this films gets so many bad reviews. It‘s acted very well by both leads, the cinematography is good and it is pretty tense the whole time. It‘s not the most original story ever told but a rating that low is just ridiculous.
Above average for Hollywoodngrossing and holds the tension all the way to the end. Ana is just playing the 2049 role again but well. Well acted Asperger's character.
This movie is entertaining, worth watching. I think Tye Sheridan does a very good performance.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Abstract The Night Clerk is a film about a young hotel concierge with Asperger's syndrome who becomes a witness and then a suspect in a crime. The movie works better as a drama than a thriller, building on some accomplished intimate moments. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Review: Bart, a young man with Asperger syndrome (Tye Sheridan), works as a night shift concierge at a small hotel. He has surreptitiously set up a camera system inside the rooms to spy and record the guests in order to improve his particular ways of relating and talking to people. But in this way he becomes a witness (and later a suspect) of a crime that he observes through the cameras. Michael Cristofer's film (which refers to spy movies like Rear Window, Body Double, and Sliver) is a combination of drama and thriller that works best as drama. Bart's character is well outlined, with his curious (and typical) combination of naivety, intelligence, and communication difficulties, with his consequent loneliness. The film takes its time to create effective intimate climates between the protagonist and a new guest, Andrea (femme fatal from the story by the versatile Ana de Armas) and to delineate with few and effective strokes the relationship between Bart and his mother (a unrecognizable and intense Helen Hunt). As for the thriller side, the story opens its letters, but certain elements of the intrigue and its resolution are somewhat confused and perhaps forced. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ………………………………….
