The Zookeeper's Wife Reviews
Why the zookeepers wife because it was Chastain? The husband took the greater risks. If you're a parent your first duty to your children is to keep them safe. The recklessness that this couple exposed their children to as written was hard to watch. The war ending, Chastain's character who has endured incredible deprivation and humiliation decides that she can't take any more and says "you disgust me" putting everything she had sacrificed fir at risk. But none of the family died even after they all were thrown to the winds. It was poetic license run amok for the sake of having a script have a proper beginning, middle and ending. Somehow when it's history it's doesn't seem proper to bastardize events like that simply to make a movie. That sort of story should have been left to the documentarian's.
this movie is incredibly powerful! And Chastain's performance is wonderful! Good adaptation too!
Very hard going at times
the story behind must be amazing, but the horror or the situation is nowhere to be seen. still moving and watchable. the scenes are too clean and romanticized to do justice to the realities faced.
Emotionally significant with a soft and sweet rhythm in the storytelling, this movie provides poignant elements with incredible acting. Recommended! My rating: 8/10
Amazing movie! I don't understand why there are so many negative critic reviews. The film was engaging, well-paced & very (very) emotional. Absolute must-watch!
The story is Zookeeper's wife saved many Jews during World War II. I like the movie because,We can think about how scary the war is. We can learn about important of help in people. I didn't understand German army because their handling for people is terrible. I want various people to see it.
This story is a story that saves the Jews. Mr. Zabinski can really respect his actions, such as hiding people in the zoo to protect the Jews. I'm glad I learned a lot from watching this movie and I didn't know it
Terror of the war understands that I watch this video. Furthermore, I can experience terribleness and pains of the war. I thought that war must be never caused.
Surprised to see the lower ratings on this. I thought it was really good and it was nice to see a unique story during a time when there has already been so many other movies made.
I thought it was a great story based on real-life events during the Holocaust in War torn Warsaw Poland at their Zoo. The Zoo owners daily battle on the front lines putting themselves at risk to save Hundreds of Jews from certain death or shipment to Auschwitz.
I stumbled upon this film when I chose it as my 2nd film to watch because I had extra time on my hands after watching the 1st movie I came to see & I felt it was much better than the 1st one & was so glad I did pick it as it became the best film of the year for me. Normally I don't like war movies that much put this film gave me hope that God can still work in a small group of people during times of great loss of God's love & guidance when we need it the most! The acting was very well done indeed & was also glad the movie didn't bring a lot of attention to killing the enemy as most war movies do but brought more attention to saving people's lives. Now I know someone could say well you're saving people's lives by killing the enemy but to me, most war movies seem to glamorize violence & destroying the enemy as the only way to win a war!
A little overdramatic but good story.
Poorly Handled 'The Zookeepers Wife' poorly handles a beautiful and inspiring true story. Based upon real life events that took place in Warsaw, Poland during World War II, this film fails to reach it's intended impact on the audience. The atmosphere of the film is misplaced and has an overall tone that doesn't belong. What should have been a tense film showcasing the impact the war had on zookeeper couple Jan and Antonina Zabinska, and how they responded to the atrocity, ends up feeling quote misplaced with an approach that waters-down the struggle the couple would have gone through. The film spends too much time on certain side plots that are not of importance to the narrative, and only divert the audience from the real story that we came for. Despite the poorly adapted narrative and misguided tone, the film fortunately contains several positive elements. In particular, Jessica Chastain's acting is nothing short of superb and is supported by great performances by Daniel Brühl and Shira Haas. The real-life animals used in the film offer a unique viewpoint of the war, and aid the film to be a visual delight. While it may be flawed in many places, 'The Zookeepers Wife' ultimately tells a unique and beautiful story of World War II that is led by a beautiful performance by Jessica Chastain.
Powerful story, well acted and importantly true. Some truly heartbreaking and uplifting moments.
