They Cloned Tyrone Reviews
Narratively familiar as well as circumstantially on the thought-provoking speculative ground with complex imagination, this strange vision is stylistically sharpened as indicatively scripted and terrifically delivered on a humorous thought. (B+)
Great cast, funny but also suspenseful, many plot twists, and makes you think multiple times throughout the movie
This movie is actually really thought provoking. Who does the government target??? You know who!
Honestly the movie should’ve had a more subtle title, I think the early big reveal would’ve been a lot more impactful if the audience didn’t see it coming. As for the movie itself, it was a really fun, well-written, well-made movie that does some really unique things. The whole cast really shines here and it’s such an interesting premise. John Boyega gives an especially incredible performance as Fontaine. The only complaints I really have with the movie are: 1. The graininess, which was a clear stylistic choice, but made some of the darker scenes in the movie difficult to see 2. The movie has such an interesting premise that I wish they had done a little more with the whole “clones” thing. There were a few opportunities to use that to do some really interesting things, but it feels like they held back.
A lot of fun, and a largely unpredictable story at first. Equal parts mysterious, weird, freaky and fun - and the actors are clearly enjoying themselves. Pretty sure there's some social commentary here that I need to better understand, but that will require another watch or two.
A hilarious and sharp-witted satire that brilliantly blends so many genres together, from 70’s blacksploitation to sci-fi to noir mystery with some excellent commentary on racial stereotypes and the systematic conditioning trying their best to reinforce these stereotypes and keep the disenfranchised locked in their corner. John Boyega, Jamie Foxx, and Teyonah Parris are all fantastic and share great chemistry with each other. The movie starts a bit slow, but it pays off when they start playing with Tyrone’s daily routines after the cloning reveal. The movie had me in stitches at some points, and there’s plenty of solid commentary and sharp writing to back up the goofier aspects of the film. The worldbuilding and lore of this movie’s version of the American government and their clone experiment communities is very intriguing and really makes you feel like there’s a whole crazy world to explore. The art direction and cinematography are very solid as well. This is easily one of the most underrated films of the year and is my kind of post-modern intellectual shitpost.
The jokes aren't funny at all, and the societal commentary is really cringey and ham-fisted. I somewhat enjoyed the grand finale, but it definitely didn't need a 2 hour film to establish.
I don't understand how people are saying great things about this. It's as if they watched another movie. In my experience, They Cloned Tyrone was raunchy, dumb, boring, drawn out (and its two hours long) and could not wait for it to be over.
Original and funny and creative, a little hard to follow and understand, but definitely original and worth watching.
Maybe the best movie I've ever seen
One of the best cinematic experiences of 2023, incredible story, acting, and visuals.
loved it. very original
Solid concept but shaky execution. The movie's sunk by having two of the main trio be comic relief characters that hit the exact same tone, pitch and cadence. Go watch Attack the Block or Vampires vs The Bronx instead.
Feels like one of those old sci-fi mystery films from the 80s or 90s. I mean one the alternative poster for this parody The Goonies poster, so it knows what it inspiration, and somehow they do their own thing with it with this film taking a modern and meta take on this with it also providing nice social commentary on how people from low income areas can be taken advantage like being asked to move out or cleaning out homeless shelters or being denied basic stuff like going to public showers or food since they might not have food stamps all of this for middle/upper middle class people benefits. It is like if Get Out was played for laughs instead of scared. Highly recommend watching
The daftness doesn't necessarily kill it, but with the murky look and impenetrable dialogue I just coudn't get into this one at all.
Like truly such a good movie, in my top 3 for movies I’ve seen so far this year! It was suspenseful, but in a way that made you curious instead of frustrated. They did an excellent job of spacing out your OH SH** moments. I laughed, I gasped, I CRIED??? Everyone did such a phenomenal job acting in this, it was so believable all the way through, the main cast was just absolutely perfect.
I was very disappointed with this film. The 3 main characters and their actors were, in the main OK, the concept was a good idea but poorly told and executed. Maybe I would have liked it in 1987, when I was 13, but today I found it mostly unfunny and nonsensical.
GEHEN EINE NUTTE, EIN ZUHÄLTER UND EIN DROGENDEALER IN EINEN AUFZUG Was mach nem Witz klingt passiert hier tatsächlich.
All around horrible but noone expected anything else
I started this film not expecting to much and I got wayyy more than I bargained for. This movie was f**king good!! I love the humor in the movie especially the dialogue between the 3 main characters the chemistry was there. Its always good seeing Jamie Foxx in a movie he's such a great actor. I especially loved the plot and concept it was well thought out and even better executed. It touched a topic that is so controversial yet questionable and made us question it even more. Great Movie !!
