The Thing About My Folks Reviews
I fell asleep watching this and all I heard was Peter Falk and Paul Reiser constantly talking while sleeping....not sure if I want to try it again.....
What an amazing and magnificent movie. It`s hilarious, deeply moving and utterly satisfying. A masterpiece of comedy and drama well rounded into a real joy of a film. Some of the best and most realistic character work i have ever seen ina film. It delivers unstoppable laughs from start to finish. Peter Falk and Paul Reiser give outstanding and beautiful performances. Falk is brilliant, he gives one of the bet screen performances of 2005. Weiser is excellent, he writes as well as performs superbly in this film. A stunning and well-crafted picture.
A touching story about a son and a father. It shows how people always have the ability to surprise you! A heartwarming story.
The rubbish title almost put me off this one, but the presence of Peter Falk drew me back and thank goodness! A sweet little film about the relationship between father and son that doesn't become too twee and sugary... even the usually annoying Paul Reiser was tolerable here!
This movie explores what one man does when his father shows up at his home in the middle of the night after his wife of nearly 50 years has left him. On an impromptu road trip, both men learn alot about each other and begin to get to know each other as men and not just father and son. Great cast too!
I always appreciate movies tackling issues of ordinary people's everyday lives and this movie seemed really promising from this point of view. Unfortunately, the mawkish happy ending destroyed the whole idea and gave it an overall pathetic tone, making it just another typical Hollywood movie. Anyway, Peter Falk once again proved himself to be an excellent actor, still in full force.
I laughed out loud a LOT in this movie but mostly because it reminded me so much of my crotchety, cantakerous, ornery, old husband of almost 30 years. I saw a lot of him in Peter Falk's character and a lot of my sons(plural) in Paul Reiser. I enjoyed this movie IMMENSELY!!! So much so, I am probably going to buy it and watch it whenever said husband irritates the *beep* outta me so I'll see the humor and lighten up. There was much to love in this movie but I wouldn't be totally honest if I didn't point out here that it bogs down into emotional "stuff" about two thirds in. It doesn't last that long, maybe 10-15 minutes at most, though it seems longer... harrumph. If ever there was a movie for a father and son to watch together, this is it. Makes you either appreciate what you have or find a way to get what you want. 'Nuff said!
I was surprised by this one (as it seems other reviewers were as well). Reiser wrote a great film... it really reflects a lot about misunderstandings in relationships, love changing over time, and how much we end up being like our parents even if we don't want to be.
I wasn't expecting this to be all that great but it was a fun feel good film and all of it was due to Paul Reiser's acting and writing abilities. This is a real sentimental film about a father and son. It's worth checking out.
This is a nice little film about an elderly father and son bonding and having a few adventures. It's nice to see Peter Falk still kicking around.
