Tragedy Girls Reviews

The lovely little psychopaths, the gore gags, the realistic and entertaining exchanges: they are all perfect. While the ending isn’t necessarily realistic, it’s tied in a pretty pink blood splattered bow and I was really happy with it.

It's over the top, but it maintains a sense of real-worldness, making every murder feel that much more resonantand making laughing that much more uncomfortable.

| Feb 13, 2022

Manages to blend humor with horror in a way that feels fresh, giving a new generation of horror fans their very own Scream.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 5, 2021

If you want hilariously-dressed teen girls, colorful cinematography, and incisive commentary on social media, ignore the ridiculous title and hit [it] up...

| Aug 14, 2020

The concept is patently ridiculous and the execution gleefully wallows in arterial spray. Clever and fun, awash in pitch-black humor, and giddy with subversion, this also paints a true-to-life picture of deep friendship.

| Original Score: A- | Jul 1, 2020

This is a movie that is carried on the shoulders of the leads. Not only is it their pop culture fueled wit and sarcastic banter that entertains us through the movie, it's their titanium clad friendship that makes the film ultimately relatable.

Tragedy Girls brings new life in the slasher sub-genre by spinning it on its head like Scream did ...

| Original Score: 5/5 | Apr 14, 2020

Tragedy Girls is gory, hilariously funny and, at times, headache-inducingly bright.

| Original Score: 9/10 | Oct 4, 2019

To get the elevator pitches out of the way immediately, the film is Generation Z's Nightcrawler and Scream for YouTubers.

| Apr 20, 2019

Hildebrand and Shipp ooze personality and charisma, making them a deadly duo who you can't help but root for.

| Nov 3, 2018

Alexandra Shipp and Brianna Hildebrand are fantastic as fame-seeking murderesses in this sharp satire on social media culture.

| Original Score: B | Nov 2, 2018

A little bit Heathers, a dash of Mean Girls, a sprinkling of Detention & just a touch of Scream 4 and you'll have a pretty good idea of what you're in for with Tragedy Girls.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 31, 2018

Sometimes it feels like there are bigger ideas that were left by the wayside, but those are minor gripes for a movie that embraces its absurdity and delivers the bloody goods when necessary.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 30, 2018

A cheap, bad-looking, one-joke movie (Millennials and their social media amirite nyuk nyuk nyuk) filled with enough tired and uninsightful self-referential jokes to fill Scream 5 through 7.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Oct 21, 2018

A stylized film combining beauty and blood while reflecting on our society's desperate need for attention through social media.

| Original Score: 8.5/10 | Oct 17, 2018

The quick pace, interesting concept, and fun performances are what carry this movie through the one-hour-and-30-minutes run time.

| Oct 11, 2018

Tragedy Girls is great fun - a comedy slasher that tickles the funny bone, delivers the action and gore and cements the star power of leads Shipp and Hildebrand.

| Sep 21, 2018

A quirky and venom-filled teen 'comedy', Tragedy Girls will appeal to teenagers, especially girls everywhere.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 29, 2018

Tragedy Girls isn't bad, by any means. It drags at some points, and the gentle mockery of social media obsession in younger girls is tired,... but the film is entertaining, with wonderful leads.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Jul 19, 2018

Very much in the Scream vein but with a sharper sense of humor, slasher fans will enjoy.

| Original Score: 6.5/10 | Apr 5, 2018
