True Things Reviews
This movie was terrible. What was the plot? The two main characters were deeply unlikable and unremarkable. I kept waiting for the movie to get interesting… it never did. This movie was the worst movie I have ever watched (and I’ve watched the emoji movie). I wish I could say there was a deeper more introspective meaning but no. Just wasted almost two hours I will never get back. DO NOT WATCH.
Amazing movie, Tom burke is incredible.
I found this mysterious film very engaging and was left thrilled by the final, satisfying climax. It was an extremely worthwhile subject to deal with and approached it with passion, honesty and sincerity.
Great performance by Wilson, horrible miscasting of Burke and the sort of film that makes you go, ok . . . . so what?
Great directing, really engaging filming and excellent performances from the lead actors. I thought this was a brilliant examination of someone on a downward spiral of loneliness and misplaced hope before finally finding themselves. I thought it was a particularly powerful performance from Ruth Wilson, she seems to have completely immersed herself in Kate's character - top notch! I totally agree with the critics score and really don't get why the audience score is so way off that?!
One word perfectly describes this movie - BORING
Ok, I'm not usually this way, but the end saved it for me. I was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. This was a frustrating and mind boggling watch at times, but I hung I'm there and completed the movie. I wouldn't recommend to non-hard core movie folks. I streamed it, and it's definitely not worth a theater watch.
True Things is a very perceptive, incredibly nuanced film about a woman trapped in a toxic relationship. It is described as a psychological thriller but I think it's more than that. Kate is a rather aimless woman, floating through life. She works at an employment centre in Kent, England and lacks direction in her life. One day a man with a checkered past comes into her work. He is clearly damaged but has a certain charisma. Soon they have a sexual encounter and it seems she might have found someone to share her life. But there is something off about him and soon his behaviour is destructive and deceiving. This expertly made film encapsulates very well how a woman can be manipulated by a man who uses his power to have her cling to his every action. It's beautifully written with great lead performances from Ruth Wilson and Tom Burke. It's filmed with many close ups which push you right into a very compelling story.
Fine acting but tiresome plot.
