Uncle Buck Reviews
Best childhood movie ever!! My sis and i still quote this movie to this day; and we are in our 40s. Hate that this last and next generation has to suffer from crap movies.
A genius film with John Candy at his charming best
Uncle Buck is a good heartwarming story if your looking for something that tries just the right amount of comic potential
This movie was a masterpiece. John Candy made the movie very humorous and immersive. Jean Louisa did a great job. It's a very difficult role to nail, a defiant teenager that reforms into a likeable and agreeable one, and the directors laid out perfect writing for her and she executed it well. Macaulay could have had a little more screentime but did his role supporting this great film. The film wanted to focus more on the problematic teenager instead (Jean's character), and I actually appreciate that. Gabby's character had a small story within the role but was highlighted excellently by Candy and the screenwriting by having Uncle Buck stand up for her against an abusive principal. I support Candy's defense of Gaby's character because there's a difference between trying to correct a young child's behavior versus just calling them a "bad egg". The principal was justified in saying Maizy wasn't taking her schooling seriously even if she was only 6 at the time, but it was very wrong to say she was a "bad" student, as it's much easier to rectify defiance in children than adolescents and especially adults. Very good use off both Candy and Gaby's characters. Good cohesion within the movie and very family friendly. Great to watch during the holidays.
Love this movie! John Candy was a comedic treasure. I watch this movie almost every time I find it on 온라인카지노추천. It's funny, cute and just makes me smile. Laurie Metcalf is hysterical.
This film has a thin plot, moments of awkward timing and some random scenes but overall, it’s a decent family film and John Candy seems to be enjoying the role.
The critics have it wrong. Uncle Buck is a masterpiece and very appropriate for today’s world. Great dialogue and a great story.
A classic John Hughes film, and one of John Candy's most memorable performances. Kudos as well to a very young Macaulay Culkin as Miles - he steals every scene he's in and holds his own with a veteran like Candy. I will admit to some melodramatic cheese, but I excuse it due to the greatness of the other parts.
Hey man this movie is actually pretty good!!!
John Hughes attempts to convince us that he loved to do hard cocaine while writing his scripts through the existence of Uncle Buck. Its quite a strange film with awkward timing, perplexing montages and gags, and above all, just a weird plot. However, this film would be condemned and awful from start to finish if it weren't for Mr. John Candy. Candy will make you smile with every line's delivery and facial expression he has to offer. His undeniable and wonderful charm is dialed to the max in this off-putting 80s comedy. Overall, a dumb movie with one of the most charismatic lead-performances in any Hughes comedy you may see.
The late, great John Candy is just golden in this iconic film. It might not be his finest film, as it's tonally all over the place, but it's still a genuine gem. Especially rewatching this as an adult and a parent, there's such warmth to seeing the protective qualities of Buck, contrasted by his chaotic way of life.
"Uncle Buck" is not perfect, but it is a funny and sweet John Hughes film made near the end of the 1980s. I think the movie has some decent laughs and some good and simple lessons. I don't think it tries to reinvent the wheel and some of the humor doesn't work for me, but it's an entertaining movie. A lot of this is because of John Candy's performance and this movie is just one of many that reminds the world what a gift he was for this generation of cinema. Overall, it is a movie that may have conflicting tones and iffy humor choices, but for the most part, I enjoyed it and it left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling that only a classic John Hughes film can create.
He's crude. He's crass. He's family. Uncle Buck is a 1989 American comedy-drama film written and directed by John Hughes 🏠 It’s good 🙂 Worth a watch. I’d recommend it if you like this genre 👍🏼 Buck Russell, a lovable but slovenly bachelor, suddenly becomes the temporary caretaker of his nephew and nieces after a family emergency. His freewheeling attitude soon causes tension with his older niece Tia, loyal girlfriend Chanice and just about everyone else who crosses his path.
Easily one of my all-time favorites, a true classic 💜
Overall, it's a lovely film that grows on you like Uncle Buck himself. Macaulay Culkin on the brink of Home Alone is entirely adorable and a star in the making, for sure. And little Gabby Hoffman is similarly adorable. However, the sullen teenage daughter was getting on my nerves the entire movie. Maybe I missed the part where it was clear why she was so mean and mad at everyone? Just because they had to move to a different city? But she's already found a boyfriend, so how bad can it be? And in contrast with the other child actors, this one just wasn't good... But apart from that, the movie is still worth a watch, especially if you're feeling down or lonely.
Too unfunny, sentimental and just silly to be appealing.Uncle Buck is too irresponsible to like completely,so the formula just doesnt properly work.John Candy tries to save this fil,but its too weak to save,in my opinion..
love the story line love the humour great movie
I've loved this movie since I first saw it when I came out. It's one of John Candy‘s many hilarious films. I don't know why its ratings aren't that high here because I don't know anybody that doesn't love uncle Buck. The writing is good and the acting is good and it's just so ridiculously funny. It is kind of 80s dated but who cares. Love the Goofy 80s fashions and weird hair. every time I watch it I still laugh my butt off. I miss John Candy…
I've watched this movie 40+times at least. John Candy was the master of feel good comedy and is missed a great deal.
It wasn't laugh out loud funny, but was good enough that it wasn't a chore to sit through. If John Candy wasn't in this, I think this would be a long-forgotten film, even with it being a John Hughes movie. While the rest of the cast puts in good all around performances, it's John Candy's style of humor that makes this one memorable.
