Sukeroku (Hiroyuki Sanada) has become wealthy helping people settle vendettas for a fee. Returning home, Sukeroku learns from his childhood enemy, Taro (Takehiro Murata), now a policeman, that there is no work in the deserted town. When he hears that four samurai have come to town to kill Katakura (Tatsuya Nakadai), an elderly warrior, Sukeroku offers his help, but is rejected. After Katakura's death, he learns the old man was his long-lost father -- and prepares for a personal revenge.
