A great classic film!

Well done movie from classic book. Animation isn't the best but it still looks nice. Music carries the story well.

A seminal work which expanded the boundaries of what could be explored in animated form. A glorious soundtrack, wonderful voice acting, a tight script, expert direction and beautiful animation. Simply put it's one of those rare movies you need to see before you die. Once seen you will never forget it.

I give this a 0 out of 10, because parents need to know this is a cartoon that involves creepy humor and blood in it.

It sure lives up to its reputation! The sole thing I knew about 'Watership Down' pre-watch was that it's relatively graphic and had an impact on children at the time of its release. Well, I can certainly see why! Heck, even by today's standards it's still pretty out there in terms of how it portrays the violence. The animation, for its time, is absolutely splendid - super effective! The music is also noteworthy. I will say that I don't think the characters are anything above solid, like post-watch I can't really remember any of them individually; visually at least, because the voice cast are very good.

Es tan fuerte y desgarradora. Sus personajes y su historia son tan profundos. Es una película sería y maravillosa. Sin olvidar sus bellísimos paisajes.

Good movie, but there are three things missing from this that were key details in the book: (spoilers ahead) 1: El-ahrairah stories. 2: Too short, so it didn't have enough time for detail. 3: More Kehaar. Kehaar was not in the movie enough, despite having so much to do with the story in the book. I hope this helped for those who want to see this.

Great, old-school painterly animation. I have read the book and didn't think this held up very well to it. And I am not even really a fan of the book. Not sure this is even for children, its pretty dark, grim, and violent.

If not for the animations this movie would be rather mediocre. But it just looks so gorgeous, that I would even rate it a 7/10. It's okay to watch but there are better movies. PG-13. This is not for childen!

It's as good as an adaptation of Adams' novel as we are likely to get, blending the hopeful fable elements with the moments of bleak violence pretty well. Bound to continue to traumatize generations of children for years to come.

This movie is something British adults that where kids when they watch it will always remember

Incredible. Very brutal, yet enchanting. Just as good as the book and in some ways better.

45 years later and this still remains one of the most infamous animated movies ever Being that it's animated though it is not described as a children's movie It's riddled with brutal violence and death Based on the book by Richard Adams directed by Martin Rosen Animals were born on this earth; all peace-loving ones but also predators created by Frith Wolves, foxes and others would hunt the rabbits down endlessly taken from Lapine language mythology The late John Hurt voices one of the animals Here it centers on Hazel and Fiver; they are brothers in a family of rabbits in danger A land residential development is coming and threatens to put them out of their home Their chief dismisses an evacuation and the rest of them have to avoid many dangers to survive The tyrannical arch-nemesis rabbit General Woundwort is but one of many next to dogs, cats, hawks etc. There's no denying this achieved mythic status--with its juxtapositions, line work of animation, talking animals, and the pop song by Art Garfunkel And judging by the world-building this is a story filled with danger, where death can frequently come from any direction It's shocking too even Woundwort punishes those he finds insubordinate even killing his own keeping a state of totalitarianism and slavery ‘Watership Down' traumatized many viewers when it first came out but inspired deep affection for many children not least due to the brutality Once in a while we need a film to show us the natural cycle of life where every moment is high jeopardy and that violence is the norm The real monster is people from the get-go seeing the amount of bloodshed the film offers even for younger viewers, this asks us to acknowledge our complicity in the actions we partake in the animal kingdom You gotta give the filmmakers credit too for having this be reminiscent of WWII films It's also rife with allegory and metaphor ranging from The Odyssey to religious implications of the rabbits' society not to mention contemporary concerns about fascism and tyranny Other concepts include loyalty, patriotism, and treason Overall it's rich with a message of saying with the promise for all the love and death and loss and pain the world offers, one day-somehow everything will turn out alright

The first time i heard about this movie was on TikTok; users claiming this movie traumatized them as kids. Me who's never heard or seen of this franchise in my entire life, decided to watch it with a complete mind understanding this was supposed to be a "kids" movie. The plot, story, animation, and characters are really well made and always had me intrigued what would happen next; which is amazing in a movie and overall i really enjoyed it. The fear of survival i felt for the rabbit's was insane and so real. But calling this a kids movie? Oml no- this is everything but a kids movie: the themes are dark, there are gruesome gore/violence scenes, the vibe was kind of sickening, and in general if i watched this as a kid i probably would be traumatized too... But overall besides the age restriction this movie was amazing. I'd give it either PG-13 or 16+

It's disturbing, but the movie's good.

The only and overwhelming issue with this film is the rating, it was marketed as a kids movie… therefore me and every 5 year old at my school got bused in to watch it. It's universally regarded as a traumatic nightmare inducing memory from people my age who saw it back then.. I found it deeply disturbing and creepy. A superb and thought provoking movie in hindsight, but should have had a R rating

all time classic, haunting to this day

If only this film is longer and slower, the audience can identify which character is which and builds stronger emotional connection with them and familiarise themselves with the mythology. We barely know what happened to the characters like Fiver and many others because of abrupt time jump after Woundwort's defeat. I particularly liked the animation, they replicated realistic bunny movements instead of anthropomorphising them.

Fantastic story, wonderful music, great characters, great animation, a dark tone that does not hold back on itself, and a powerful ending.
