What Keeps You Alive Reviews
I went into this movie with great trepidation. Based on the audience reviews, there seemed to be a character decision so egregious that it ruined the film for many. I have seen these types of movies before with the one dumb decision and it's usually 50/50 for me whether the foible ruins it for me or not. So going in to this one, it was going to be a coin toss. When I came across that nonsensical decision (you'll instantly know it when you see it), I almost turned the movie off. However, the movie had built up such good will, I felt, as a viewer, I owed it to see it through. And let me also just say, in all fairness, there is zero chance the character makes that decision in any kind of universe/dimension - zero. But this a movie, and that being said, I looked past it, and found the movie to be enthralling, tense, smart and captivating. I would strongly suggest, when you see that incomprehensible plot twist, remember how good the rest of the movie was leading up to it (as well as the rest of the movie after that point) and you'll find that this was a great film.
So creepy & suspenseful! Captivating the whole way through. Great ending
Jackie and Jules travel to a remote cabin to celebrate their one year anniversary as a same sex married couple. Someone has to ruin it with violence. The actresses deserved a better story. Instead, they received an unmemorable formulaic tale in which their characters make stupid choices only to move the plot along.
Brilliant underrated movie gem
I really wanted to like this movie but some of the parts were very unsatisfying and absurd. For example, the girl is thrown from the cliff, have major injuries (including her face badly wounded) and yet the day after she appears at the dinner with almost no scars and guests doesn't notice anything except that she looks somehow weak. C'mon! Maybe I am being too demanding and critical but those kind of inconsistent places annoy me. However, there are some nice chills and performances from two lead ladies are good.
Jigsaw co-stars Brittany Allen and Hannah Emily Anderson are a happy couple They go to a cabin in the wilderness All’s good until Jackie snaps and suddenly becomes a murderous psychopath Jules does all she can to get away The film is violent and these two women are really good It’s not an entirely original idea of the hunter-hunted model we’re used to seeing A majority of this really has me wish Jules was a lot smarter and much braver (certain instances she could just freaking fight back or grab a blunt instrument to defend herself, there comes a point where you just want her to stop weeping in the corner) Some things in here strain credibility or you can’t believe how dumb certain stuff happens Two twists I admit I didn’t see coming so I’ll give them that There are real cases that apply to this kind of domestic abuse so I think that’ll work for some being very terrifying not knowing when the violence will occur let alone asking why It’s truly scary when your significant other is dead-set on making you an ex
This film will make you angry.
I enjoyed the whole game of cat and mouse in this movie its what made the movie for me
What keeps you alive is what you're willing to die for.
Fantastic thriller! Keeps you on the edge of your seat with constant surprises at every turn. Very engaging circumstances as well. Hard to even pause to go get a snack. Super good kick if you're in a lesbian relationship and watch this with your partner! 😂 All around 10/10.
The first two thirds of the film are fairly good. The problem with this film is that the ending is both predictable and one that you know will not be satisfying. For that reason the last 1/3 of the film is both boring and unpleasant. When you have two main characters one hunting the other and the film is 90 minutes you know what the climax is going to be so it means you really can't use the threat of one killing the other to engage the audience you have to more going on. Unfortunately this film runs out of ideas. It also suffers from the fact that the antagonist has to be established as a credible killer, and the protagonist as a credible victim which it does. The problem comes in the form that it is also a very clear that the ending could not simply be the antagonist killing the prognostic which made the most logic sense. So from a logic standpoint the ending would always be unsatisfying... Yeah I don't know not a very good movie tbh... Mise-en-scene was good. Hardcore horror fans a good watch otherwise I'd skip this.
this movie went from really good to really dumb in the time it would take you to drive to your nearest street corner. Spoiler word… Operative word being DRIVE. If you have the chance, in the car, driving away from the psychopath to go get help, but yet all of the sudden have some weird ego-driven epiphany , turn around and drive back to re confront the murderous psychopath?! You deserve to be thrown off that cliff. So lame.
Not a great movie. Bad actors. Too many flaws in the story line.
Film kupił mnie wizualnie. Fabularnie również mi się podobał lecz przyznam że scenariusz jest prosty. 8/10. 4,5/5
Despite a couple of those frustrating scenes in horror/thriller movies where you just want to yell at the character on screen for making what seem like obviously silly, life-threatening decisions, the performances and directing make up for what could have been a fairly by-the-numbers experience. The movie wastes no time jumping into what I guess you could call a "second act", so much so that it's almost a preface, and then the rest of the movie. This works in some ways, and irritates in others, but again it's rescued by its performances and competent directing, editing, and sound design. Worth the time on a night where you feel like a competent thriller, even if it falls short of being an outstanding one.
Wasted and I do mean wasted potential.
Pretentious, filled with inconsistencies, and shallow.
Utterly preposterous but ridiculously entertaining. It's overlong and really stupid in places, but even at its most nonsensical points it's never dull.
How on earth does this not have a higher audience rating? This movie isn't flawless, but it's a ton of fun. Some of the performances are over the top, but it's clearly a creative choice and it fits the tone of the film as a whole. It takes some exciting twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Recommend.
Julie - where is begin... this character drove me insane from the start, she was needy and annoying and had absolutely no chance at survival. She just made dumb decisions the entire movie and
