I loved this movie, I feel like Ben and Matt watched this before writing Good Will hunting

Brings back a lot of early ‘90’s nostalgia. Good writing. Good acting. Well directed & produced.

I think a lot of Younger people could benefit from seeing this movie. All the movies may be simplistic without all the intense action that people desire today, but they contained some decent morals and thoughtful messages about life and what’s important. This movie is an example of that. It touches upon relationships, how difficult they are and how we take what we have for granted and. avoid thinking about others who are less fortunate. The movie does a good job, displaying the connection between our past, our present, and our future hopes and dreams or lack there of.

Im not sure what to make of this. It's got tons of problems but it has some good things about it. It's biggest problem is it can't walk the line of comedy & melodrama very gracefuly or modest at all. It's not funny in the slightest with just very poorly setup jokes that are either stupid or just feel random half the time is the best way to describe it. Than it tries to be serious and tugs way too hard on the heartstrings at times and it's not subtle at all. the music also is constantly like for a Sleepless in Seattle type flick not for something trying to be funny and it's very forgettable. Fraiser isn't good in this but thank god Pesci is AT TIMES. He's all over the place. Sometimes he's too over the top, not funny, cringe, forgettable, out of place, than other times he's really good and the best thing in this. Especially that one brief moment when he meets his son which is the best moment in this where it hit. But was it worth sitting through all that t get here? No. Than the whole helping him write or get his thesis back at the start feels completely forgotten about and becomes more about Pesci. It's very unfocused and feels like gaags and melodramatic moments just happen at points and can't make it work cohesively. There are a few serious moments with Pesci's condition though that do hit and the direction isn't terrible. The framing, location, lighting is all pretty good actually. The other problem is the other 3 supporting characters are like the supporting heroes in Captain America The First Avenger where they just blend in and are super forgettable. And at the end of it I felt like I didn't really get the point of it but did have moments I appreciated on there own if that makes sense. This isn't even close to being good but as many problems as it has, I can't call it bad either. Fundamentally everything is just alright. Skip it unless your a DIE HARD Pesci fan.

A underrated and underappreciated movie. Joe pesci gives a brilliant performance along with the rest of the cast. The last 15 minutes made me cry. Tim Treakle

Wonderful story. Great actors.

This is one of my favorite movies of both Joe Pesci and Brendan Fraser. They both fill a void in each other's lives, and in some way become father and son to each other. It's a great 90's film. I recommend it!

I'm a fan of this movie since the first time I watched. Great emocional history

I just watched this film for the 1st time (Nov 2023), and I wish I had seen it years ago. It's the kind of movie that makes you think and cry. It's personally very moving. You go in, thinking it's a lighthearted flick (which in large part it is). But it's actually a Trojan Horse because it humanizes the dehumanized (maybe that explains the abysmally low scores from mainstream critics). "With Honors" is a movie that makes you think, laugh & cry - but more importantly, it makes you reevaluate how you see people. You watch how a homeless bum (Joe Pesci) is transformed into a human being in the eyes of a Harvard student (and those of the audience). It's easy to dehumanize the homeless by calling them bums and thus scapegoat them for all the ills of society. But when you watch this movie, you unfortunately realize how easily anyone can fall into living on the streets. (Given current inflation and housing crisis, this 1994 film still hits a societal nerve.)

I am not sure why this movie has gotten bad reviews. It is one of my all time favorite movies. Everyone who has watched it with me, or watched after my recommendation, has absolutely loved the movie. I dare you to watch and not shed a tear.

People hated this jukebox musical; a post-musical musical in the vein of Saturday Night Fever; where there's a lot of dancing scenes and musical montages and people doing things with music in the background. But no singing. Because in the 80s and the 90s America had toughened up and no longer tolerated real musicals. They we're considered dorky and too implausible at this point. M온라인카지노추천 had taken over; and variety shows like Carol Burnett and Donnie and Marie were out, out, out at this point. So we have all these quasi-musicals; or almost musicals to satisfy that need we have to see songs performed on film. But without actual singing this time. (Musicals stayed dead until the 2000s when Moulin Rouge, High School Musical and Glee resurrected them). If you see this movie as a wish fulfillment fantasy; a girl's version of Saturday Night Fever; it's an interesting curio; and actually in this movie's defense there are many effective scenes here; when viewed individually. The "You're A Dream" sex-dance at Mawby's where Alex douses herself with water is so effective it became famous and iconic; same thing with the wonderful audition scene in the finale. People complain it's not realistic. It's a musical!! It's impressionistic; not documentation; it's a music-number show not a cinema verite documentary or expose. But the heart of the movie; that young person's desire to make their dream a reality; to break out of their drudgery and hit supstardom where they can finally express themselves and come alive; that classic plot is as real in 1983 as it is now. And Jennifer Beals is just fine; she gives you that heroic strength and vulnerability the character needs. The major problem is not that it's unrealistic; it's that Adriane Lynne; while constructing alot of beautiful shot set pieces; insists on doing the one-music-video stretched to another one approach. He should have loosened up and let there be more dialogue; more scene setups and commentary; more exposition. In between the musical numbers to set them up and balance them off. As it is it definitely becomes a drag at the 40 minute mark; it gets boring as one big video. But Lynne and company deserve credit for trying something new here; he's not the devil for experimenting; and the result isn't as bad as everyone says it is.

This is not only one of the best Joe Pecsi movies ever, but one of my personal top ten.

Mar 25, 2022

An underrated gem. One of the best performances of both Brendan and Pesci. It may feel like a push for Oscar gold but its criminal that it was not seen for its true worth.

Definition of comedy and drama. The cast is great, story is great.

Solid, tough performances by Brendan Fraser and Joe Pesci, nothing more.

Good grief I am so tired of the critics getting everything wrong. This is a great movie. Enjoy

With memorable performances from Joe Pesci and Brenden Frasier, With Honors is a highly under rated drama about finding what is important in life.

The script sure didn't deserve any honors.

My family has seen this movie several times over the years. It is a must see for every college student. It Should be used in a freshman class (sociology maybe). The relationship between Monty (Brandon Fraser) and Simon (Joe Pesci) grows throughout the movie and their performances were great. For me it is one of Pesci's best portrayals.

Maybe it relates to nostalgia because I watched With Honors for the first time when I was the right age, but for some reason I still love it. I fully recognize that the film lacks any semblance of subtlety. Not only does it bang you over the head with its messaging, but it doesn’t have any nuance to the acting performances. Everyone is locked into a stereotyped role, and has cranked up their portrayal of that type of person to a 10. You can predict where the plot is going, and if you ever start to question what might be coming next they’ll be happy to telegraph that to you with blatant foreshadowing. Yet I watched it again, for the first time in decades, and I was once again enthralled. Even if the cast is a bunch of caricatures of real people, I am emotionally invested in them. I fall for every single sappy plot point, and by the end I’m reduced to sobbing. It might not be the greatest film about college kids looking to find themselves, but it is one that speaks to me. I appreciate the messages that we all can find the right path for us, that there can be strength in admitting you are wrong, and that no one is too far gone. With Honors also shows the importance of recognizing what is truly valuable. It’s not going to be for everyone, but it will always have a soft spot in my heart.
