The X-Files: I Want to Believe Reviews

Feb 12, 2025

Disasterous second movie that should never have been made. Too short, it's just a filler episode and a bad one at that. Killed the franchise that could only limp on another season.

If you enjoy X files this movie will be up your alley. If your watching this for some reason other than being a fan of the series its not worth watching. It will not make you interested in the show. This movie reminds me of those movies where the movie before they had figured out their team dynamic. But they need conflict so they pretend this team doesn't work well together and for 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie they try to regain their mojo. This movie feels like a sad excuse to put our two leads back together for a movie. The plot is not memorable, but the chemistry between the characters is still top notch. The locations are great. It feels like an episode of X files but not one you remember. There is nothing terrible about the movie just ends up being average.

If you're expecting any resolutions at all to almost anything that happened in the show you'll get none. It's basically an extended episode of the show with a crap x-file, one of the case adjacent ones. The case was pretty sci-fi-y too I suppose but the x-files qualities of the case aren't discussed. I have a lot of other issues with the film that I'm not gunna explore. Fun fact for those that expanded: They used a spitting image puppet of Zach Braff as stand in for David when he was too busy to shoot

Loved the X Files, but and it's nice to see the cast again after the series had ended but aside from that, this movie really sucked.

The second big screen venture for Fox Mulder and Dana Scully while ditching the science fiction for more supernatural thriller is an interesting move and the cast is great but it feels like an very disappointing episode of The X Files

`The X-files: I Want to Believe' was the second big screen tie-in to be spawned from the excellent 온라인카지노추천 series. However, if failed to set the box office alight and also was met with a lukewarm reaction from the fans (of which I am one). I loved all nine series of the sci-fi drama, tuning in each week to watch the two FBI agents, Mulder and Scully, as they tracked down one supernatural mystery after the next. As I mentioned, the X-files went on for a colossal nine series, covering everything from alien abduction, to pyrokinesis and artificial intelligence. Therefore, it was fair to say that it had a rich (supernatural) background from which to build on. Fans naturally expected it to somehow continue from the end of the ninth series (concentrating on the conspiracy between sinister alien forces and a splinter-cell of the American government to take over the world). However, it didn't. The second X-files movie is a very condensed little piece which, although uses the main characters, doesn't really feel much like part of the series. It's a stand-alone affair which, amazingly (and in some people's opinion - unforgivably), doesn't really have that much to do with the paranormal. Yes, there's a priest who has psychic powers, but that element feels pretty underutilised during the whole story. What you have here, rather than a film which is very much sci-fi/conspiracy (keeping in tone with the series), is one which is - almost - a standard FBI vs Serial killer movie. You could almost have removed the small psychic element and simply had Scully and Mulder hunt down someone harvesting body parts. I'm tempted to say that, if you like the series, you'll like this, but most people didn't. I didn't either the first time I watched it. I expected something big and loud and filled with aliens and double-crossing. What I got was something smaller and more subtle. Now I've seen it a second time, I like it a little more. But, as many said about Star Trek 9: Insurrection, it felt more like an extended 온라인카지노추천 episode rather than a cinematic vehicle to re-launch the X-files onto a new generation. So, if you like cops tracking down serial killer type movies then you'll probably like this. It's not bad, it's just not what I and many other die-hard X-files fans were expecting (I'd still be first in line if they ever announced an `X-files 3' movie though!).

Provides a mashup of all that made the series worthy. Visually confronting towards the end of film.

Yet another non-movie by Carter and co. Why bother making a feature film when you don't know how to utilize the format? And it's not much of an x-file either.

I thought it was very interesting much like the television show I'm currently watching the television show to see how it compares other than that I would recommend it to other people but first I would say you would have to see the television show first To understand where this movie and why it takes place . if you were watching this is a independent film just by itself without a franchise he wouldn't know the characters and stuff like that it's kind of confusing. however it gives a brand new fresh look of the X-Files series I just wish that they would do another show on this or reboot the franchise entirely for the 20's.

The first x files film was way better than this purely because it was made when the show was in it's first few seasons. As the seasons went one they became worse with the occasional good episode and this film was made in it's decline and this declined

I really like this movie. Watch it on cinema when I was a teenager, and just listening to the song for the tv show it takes me back.

A strong personal story of Mulder and Scully. An extraordinary plot, it was nice to find all the new details every time you watch the movie. Great actors, amazing music, and the chase scene is just goosebumps. But this movie is just a gift to the fans. Unfortunately not for a wide audience.

An underwhelming second movie and a return to the X-Files. With not enough of Mulder and Scully actually working together. Scully just wants to use stem cell research to save a kid and isn’t even an FBI agent.

"I Want To Believe!" But after two very bad X-File-movies, 1998 and this one, I can only say I no longer believe in the X-Files for the big screen! I think Mulder should just marry Scully and they should live somewhere in the country. In peace. And please: No more movies!

meh; i actually don't think it's that bad, but i never watched the tv show (i've seen a few episodes years ago, but that's really it) - so i didn't have any attachments to the characters or stories, but i like a good detective plot. it was a decent watch.

In an attempt to revive what was once one of Fox's biggest, most valuable IPs, I Want To Believe tries its damnedest to ease in newcomers by telling a standalone story whilst also trying to keep fans engaged by having the main driving force behind the plot being the FBI dropping charges against Mulder which anybody who's seen the original series finale will know exactly what they're going on about. And in fairness, there is some degree of effort into making this movie as good as they possibly can. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's chemistry is as great as ever to the point that it hardly feels like 6 years have passed since the show ended (they did reprise their roles in a tie-in game set during the seventh season that plays out like a Silent Hill clone but let's not go into that), the music is masterfully composed with the remix of the iconic theme tune being insanely catchy, a certain character's return formed some of the best scenes in the film and there is a bit of the iconic atmosphere from the show. Unfortunately, it seems that the second X-Files movie has its fair share of problems. The MOTW story feels more suited to a two-part episode than an actual feature-length movie, the short runtime results in a struggle to focus on the MOTW story and the more character-driven side of things with Scully's crisis of faith (I didn't really care about her medical drama subplot that made me feel like I wandered into the big-screen movie of ER or Grey's Anatomy) and Mulder's apparent midlife crisis, Xzibit is hilariously miscast as an FBI agent (mostly because I saw Xzibit more than his character whereas Billy Connolly and Amanda Peet do disappear into their roles seamlessly enough) and even the cinematography, the most consistent thing across all 9 seasons and the previous film (the fact that both mythology and MOTW episodes are shot like mini-movies helps), has a more generic feel to it despite having the same DP. There're no unique angles or fun movement, it just feels like any DP could've done it and I wouldn't notice the difference. I'm not saying everybody should be Roger Deakins but I Want To Believe's more static appearance really stood out in my eyes, especially since Fight the Future didn't have this problem. Is I Want To Believe treated too harshly? Probably. But you can't deny this first attempt at resurrection didn't really live up to the hype either. I'd say Fight the Future was a tough act to follow but in fairness, comparisons would be unfair since that was more of a proper summer blockbuster while this was more of a low-key thriller because everybody wants to be David Fincher nowadays. At least the credits scene that I'm guessing was meant to set up a sequel can be reintrepreted as the iconic duo finally getting some degree of a happy ending before the revival. So, as a certain British comedy troupe says, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

This new installment fails to deliver the goods.

If you're a fan of the show and have watched seasons 1-9 and the first movie, you should watch this movie. While the X-File case itself might not reach the highs that some of the show's reached, it isn't bad by any means and would work fine as a normal episode. The real gold in this movie comes from seeing Mulder and Scully together again after the conclusion of Season 9. The show wrapped up a lot of loose plot threads in the finale but now we get a nice epilogue to see how the characters processed their journey and moved foward with their lives. Overall the movie feels more like a episode of the show and less of a blockbuster movie. I gave it 5-stars not because it deserves all of them but it deserves more than it gets. Its not a bad movie, just really a movie meant more for the fans of Mulder and Scully. Casual movie viewers can probably skip this movie.

Pretty disappointing compared to the first movie or the series. If this was an episode. It would still be one of the weakest. Though it is slightly better than some of episodes of the revival series.

Not horrible but not great either. It is just average run to the mill "ok" episode but longer and prettier?
