Zerophilia Reviews
I think I see the points the film tries to address; but it just fails to execute the complicated ideas in good balance.
Not half bad......the concept was original and quite interesting but the execution needed work, and the acting could have done with some improvement as well.
Sex definitely changes you! So I FINALLY got to see Zerophilia (after having ordered it from Amazon), and I tell you it was a gem! For those who haven't yet seen it, then do so ASAP - for those who hv, you know what I'm talking about. It was cute and funny. Okay not over the top like some Hollywood productions, but it had that uniqueness of an "Indy" (independent film) feel to it. I found myself chuckling and L-ing O L at some parts, and feeling the main character's (Luke's) frustration on the whole gender switching ordeal. And of course, I found myself asking the question(s), what would it be like to gender switch on a whim? (although in the film there was more "manipulation" required ;) than just a whim). And then, what gender would I ultimately choose to be? And of course, Kyle Schmid (as Max) and the great "reveal" in the shower scene! <-- That really got me! I literally said out loud (but to myself): "Wow, I didn't see that coming!" And then things just fell into place. I'm so glad I discovered this film (and of course if not having become a fan of Kyle since seeing him in "Blood Ties", I may have NEVER known about it.) Zerophilia is a definite must see!!
Una historia curiosa y cuando digo curiosa, me refiero a diferente e incluso extraña. Es una pelìcula ligera, que cumple con el objetivo de entretener pero nada màs. 5/10
Probably the strangest weirdest fucking movie I have ever seen..too bad it's unoriginal..Luke a young man with a genetic disorder discovers he can swap sexs when aroused, which complicates matters when he falls in love...Anyone who knows the manga comic Ranma  1/2 has seen this all before so there isn't anything new here, and what could be a really funny movie is just dull.
Bad storyline, bad acting, and terrible ending. Thats just the beginning of the awful things I can say about this film.
A very strange movie, yet somehow sweet. There is nothing like a sappy, happy ending to make things better.
This was strange but in a very intriguing way. I think I am going to have to watch it again before giving a full review.
This was better than I expected. Hardly great, but I enjoyed it a lot. I can't say I've seen a movie that deals with changing genders in quite this way before. It's not a gay film, it's mostly hetero sex, but one that explores sexuality in a slightly different way. Basically, love whomever you choose according to who you are. Expect simplistic writing, and plotting (after school special with nudity), and enjoy the intent. Side note: Kudos to whoever was in charge of casting, There are some really great looking actors in this film. :)
Taylor Handley is the most unlikeable actor in the world. That even includes when he was twelve years old on Dawson's Creek.
No, it's not the attraction to nothingness. It's a silly premise where, when aroused, a person with an extra chromosome changes gender. How two ended up in the same small town, or the third one found them, etc, well I believe reality has been suspended enough to allow these questions. It could have been really silly and still is, but it's also a nice movie. The big catch is kinda interesting...sort of David Duchovny in Return to Me where the two will love each other no matter what. On the independent side, it has a lot of the feel of Michael Rappaport in that superhero movie. Anyway...spoiler so if you don't want dont read on. The big appeal of the movie is the open-mindedness. In our time of homophobia, it's nice to see a movie say who gives a shit. He changes into a girl and that pretty much screws him over, right? Well, the girl that so turns him on just happens to be a zerophiliac as well, and their alters just happen to be attracted to one another also. Nice theme that no matter what they will love each other. The bit at the end seems to prove this as they move through the different characters. Anyway, not bad for an independent. Cool idea that maybe could have been handled better, but can't have it all.
I was invited to a screening of Zerophilia at Westwood Crest Theatre November 16, 05 in the LA area and it was great to see the theatre packed. It's a romantic comedy with a twist. The audience loved it. I'm not one to laugh easily at films, but, this one had me laughing out loud a lot. I hope these guys get distribution. The theatre was packed and everyone was clapping and smiling at the end. You could tell by the faces that everyone loved it. I went in without knowing a thing about the premise line and never looked at the trailer. It took me by complete surprise. A cute movie that really does a great job of highlighting love for a person no matter what the gender is. It's a great comic fantasy. With a twist I'd never thought of. You are what you are! Good job...;)
Zerophiliacs is no more ! Pathetic story line but matters are ultimately stretched further than required. Rebecca, Only one movie on her career, did shown her skin. Not Recommended !!!
A loopy yet subtle comedy with an awesome, strange conceit (kind of like eXistenZ on Quaaludes). Although the male-female/gay-straight mix-'em-ups can sometimes be broad or indulgent -- especially in the off-kilter, American Pie-esque beginning -- the overall drama, examining confusion and frustration in romance, friendship, and sexual politics, is always intelligent and provocative in just the right way.
