If you like action and anime this is the perfect one to watch because this show probably doesn’t go more than 5 minutes without a heavy action packed scene, it is also quite gory so I wouldn’t recommend it to you if you’re not a fan of that but if you are then of course, I watched all of the 8 episodes last night and it was a whole lot of fun, highly looking forward to the next season.

Very entertaining piece of over the top action, although some writing choices confuse me. (Spoilers) In making Demons "opressed achually" it makes Sparda and by extension Dante seem like bad guys, even though Sparda is getting absolutely glazed for being this "big mysterious hero" for most of the show. I also like that they gave loads of character background to Mary but isn't Dante supposed to be the main character of the show? What about his past? And why does Mary have as much time on screen as him?

A fun remix of Devil May Cry lore. Stronger emphasis on Dante's supporting cast as he learns more about his origins. Mary "Lady" Arkham gets a strong focus and a big remix in her story in this telling. If you liked the Netflix Catlevania you'll probably enjoy this. Cool actions scenes. Decent story. Fun cast overall. Hate the CG animated bits all around.

As someone who is quite familiar with Capcom's Devil May Cry video game franchise, Netflix and Adi Shankar's adaptation seemingly felt rather mediocre direction that did not quite capture the essence of its source material.

I have played DMC as a kid and is the show accurate to the games? Not really. Did I still enjoy the anime and binge watch the whole season? Yes. Plus, these haters saying the music was trash need to get their ears checked.

Dante is officially written out as the main lead of the show. All focus and character development is focussed on Lady. They also took all elements out of Dante that made him interesting and turn him almost into a teenage version of himself. The creator of the show clearly must have had a disdain for DMC's original lore and characters he felt the need to change everything about it. It's what happens when a bloated ego thinks he is better than the source material. The only redeeming factors are the music and the animation quality. But that's about it.

Another incredible and beloved series destroyed by Netflix. Lacking everything that was brought by the games, just another script with nothing new, written by someone who doesn't know the stories. Boring, uncharismatic characters, forced jokes and no of the acid humor of the games. At least the music is good.

This new incarnation of Devil May Cry is exactly what I wanted! Since hearing that it was made by the team behind Castlevania, I was stoked! Dante is young and brash, brute forcing his way through life and enjoying himself in the process. Lady, called by her real name Mary in this show, gets much needed development. Her OG character was great but outside of DMC3, she’s been more of a tag-along instead of a real character. Her growth is slow but earnest. And the villainous White Rabbit is the best kind of antagonist, menacing but fun to watch as he stays one step ahead of everyone else. Lots of other reviews say this show somehow devalues the original series, but as someone who grew up playing these games, I love how much the creators were willing to take risks and make a compelling narrative. Aside from DMC3 and 5, the plot of the games was all over the place. That’s fine for an action game but the dialogue, action scenes, and over the top narrative, combined with an intriguing and sometimes morally questionable plot line, make this one of the best animated shows out right now! Can’t wait to see what season 2 has in store!!

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s run of ruining beloved storylines. This will be right up your alley

No amount of action can get me invested. It is goofy and doesn’t want to be taken seriously well that hurt it in the long run.

One of the worst written shows I've ever seen. The music is terrible, the fight scenes are dull, and they cast aside Dante to focus on a human lady who is made to be far more badass than the half human half demon Dante. Truly horrific writing

The good: all the animation, music, and sound design is great. The bad: the story and writing is very contrived. It felt like a forced narrative written to fit a predetermined mold, where the bad guys really aren't really the bad guys, with hyperbolically comical 'inspiration' taken from todays current state of politics and 'modern world views'. It's not all bad, in fact episode 6 is really good and does provide context for character motivations while being very stylistic and interesting which goes a fair way in tying those themes into the story, but in a lot of ways it makes the rest of the story even more confusing and inconsistent. The dialog is also extremely grating at times. I've never played the DMC games, but my main afterthoughts are they need to focus more on the main character Dante who didn't seem very fleshed out, and drop a lot of the excessive allegory. Hard to recommend season 1 but with a fair amount of refocus a season 2 could be promising.

a multimillion dollar company creates a bad generic script, buys the IP of a big franchise of games that marked an era to attract its fans and simply just puts the name and design of the franchise's characters in this horrible story, and still wants the fans to buy its idea.

Who made this show? Key elements of Dante are none existent, where is ebony and ivory? Why does the sparda amulet look like a friendship bracelet. Where is rebellion?... like there's 3 video games you could've played for 15 minutes and taken more development

If you are a DMC fan this show is not for you. It throws away key things about the story and focuses too much on Lady who is no longer the character we knew. To top that off if you want to look at this as it's separate entity, the plot only goes forward when They decide Dante forgets he can move at super sonic speed which was estabilished multiple times just in the show by him dodging bullets.

This is not the Devil may Cry reboot adaptation I was hoping for. Our protagonist Dante in this series is not an important character his screen time is constantly taken by a woman who likes to swear every minute and it's like they are trying to replace Dante's character. If you are trying to replace him as an important character why put a poster of Dante as the main image of this series? Just to lure old gamers who like Dante and you immediately disappoint them. For those of you who like Dante I suggest you don't waste your time with this reboot series and just watch Devil May Cry 2007 it is much better because it is canon with the game story.

Adi Shankar has ruined one of the best video game characters for us, everything is wrong in this show. Every character is portrayed in a wrong way, their stories have been manipulated. In the name of creativity, Adi Shankar has totally changed the characters and their backstory. Its not like the games, I am okay with it. But the least you can do is to refer to the source. Looks like he never played the games, cuz all he did was copy character designs and find ways to ruin it, everything disappoints. it took 2 episodes to question myself, why was I even watching this?

This should be considered a crime, the amount of incompetence in the script is absurd, even if it's in a fantasy universe. Seriously, I finished this show and thought "oh my God, what have I done".
