Meanwhile on Earth (2024) 81% 3/5 “While Clapin can easily handles the directorial skills here, the screenplay could have used some work, especially how it fails to tie things up. The filmmaker plays better when his characters are rendered on a cartoon palette.” – Film International Nov 11, 2024 Full Review Twisters (2024) 75% 3.5/5 “ You may not be fully swept away, but it’s a great Dolbyized and super-sized disaster ride.” – Film International Jul 19, 2024 Full Review Three Minutes - A Lengthening (2021) 100% 4.5/5 “Not your conventional Holocaust documentary…. Fragments get incessantly replayed, slowed down, reversed, enlarged, and otherwise altered to sniff out clues and provide context, sometimes agonizingly so.” – Film International Apr 16, 2024 Full Review Civil War (2024) 81% 4/5 “The in-your-face documentary-style naturalism in this boldly anti-war statement will deaden your senses with its pulsating climax as D.C. comes under siege. … This is a road movie like no other.” – Film International Apr 14, 2024 Full Review Monkey Man (2024) 89% 4/5 “Revenge is savagely sweet in Monkey Man. Let the carnage begin.” – Film International Apr 5, 2024 Full Review Mad Props (2024) 100% 3.5/5 “Humankind’s appetite for many things nostalgic is at play here, and it is a satisfying meal.” – Film International Mar 12, 2024 Full Review Dune: Part Two (2024) 92% 4.5/5 “Dune: Part Two succeeds on its many storyline levels, big and small. Passion, power, corruption, oppression, romance, intimacy, and revenge all get their time in this sweeping spectacle.” – Film International Mar 1, 2024 Full Review Drive-Away Dolls (2024) 63% 3.5/5 “Some secrets are best left for you to discover at the multiplex. Catch a ride with Drive-Away Dolls, which I feel will play better with a solid crowd — gay and straight — at the multiplex. Here’s a lighthearted, giddy gem. Absurd never looked so good.” – Film International Feb 25, 2024 Full Review Argylle (2024) 33% 1.5/5 “Everyone’s too serious in this incredibly overproduced, over-CGI’ed Universal release, with Apple footing most of the nearly $200 million budget – better sell a bunch of its Vision Pro goggles to balance off this film’s losses.” – Film International Feb 2, 2024 Full Review The Holdovers (2023) 97% 4.5/5 “Yup, it’s a big, gift-wrapped present filled with sentimentality and lovely, effective performances, expertly crafted scenes, and a terrific story.” – Film International Nov 4, 2023 Full Review Joan Baez I Am a Noise (2023) 94% 4/5 “Joan Baez I Am a Noise is a lovely curtain call, offering time for Joan to frame how she ultimately crushed her life-long demons. It’s a heartbreaking journey into the horrifying past and a heartwarming walk into a future of forgiveness.” – Film International Oct 6, 2023 Full Review The Creator (2023) 68% 2.5/5 “With all the talk of artificial intelligence taking over our lives, this technically proficient film may be timely, but its futuristic concept – mankind vs. an enemy of its own making – flails about as a misguided, muddled search for (non-)human salvation” – Film International Sep 29, 2023 Full Review A Haunting in Venice (2023) 75% 2/5 “Not the charm you might be hoping for, unless you’re a fan of endless rain, too many jump scares, unsettling camera angles, ragged hand-held camerawork, onerous close-ups, and a score drowning in dreary woodwinds and screechy violins.” – Film International Sep 16, 2023 Full Review Barbie (2023) 88% 4/5 “Gerwig leaves a personal imprint on her film, as a boldly painted battle cry for womanhood and subversive social satire about misguided male perceptions.” – Film International Jul 22, 2023 Full Review Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) 96% 4/5 “Cruise and company battle an out-of-control sentient AI creation called ‘the Entity,’ which seems to have no weak points and quite a global advantage…. Preposterous? You bet. Fun? Of course!” – Film International Jul 11, 2023 Full Review Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023) 70% 4/5 “For the most part Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny captures the frantic life of its central character — whether he wants it or not — racing around the planet for pieces of its past. It’s a grand send off.”” – Film International Jun 30, 2023 Full Review The Flash (2023) 63% 4/5 “… the never-ending humor, miracle casting, excellent action sequences, bright script, and spot-on direction offer its audience a wonderful undertaking at the multiplex.” – Film International Jun 15, 2023 Full Review Spoiler Alert (2022) 87% 3.5/5 “Filled with keen observant and honest life revelations that warms the heart before the moments of despair, Spoiler Alert offers up a warming cup of hot cocoa in a tragicomic setting.” – Film International Dec 13, 2022 Full Review Something In The Dirt (2022) 90% 4/5 “The “intergalactic geniuses” Moorhead&Benson, a.k.a. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, are back to their deviously genre-bending antics for their fifth tag team feature.” – Film International Nov 9, 2022 Full Review Armageddon Time (2022) 76% 4/5 “Armageddon Time takes a lot of effort to make a memorable, brooding statement; the solutions offered aren’t as satisfying as you might hope. The taste may be somewhat off-putting.” – Film International Nov 5, 2022 Full Review The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) 96% 5/5 “Pain, grief, disorientation, and a dash of violence are soulfully plotted together by McDonagh, with his vision so wonderfully conveyed through the expressive chemistry of Farrell and Gleeson.” – Film International Nov 4, 2022 Full Review For I Know My Weakness (2012) 3.5/5 “A raw journey into immersive filmmaking, asking for a wide berth when it comes to social ethics.” – Film International Nov 3, 2022 Full Review Burial (2022) 61% 3/5 “Despite the director’s limited ability to handle low-budget action in his debut feature, his much more accomplished follow-up shows he still needs to work with better, less-confusing script material.” – Film International Aug 31, 2022 Full Review Goodbye, Petrushka (2022) 94% 3.5/5 “For those of us who like romantic comedies, Goodbye, Petrushka falls amidst the genre’s smaller ones best described as quirky, wobbly, and bittersweet, yet it is adorned with a solid heart on its music box sleeve. ” – Film International Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Bullet Train (2022) 53% 1/5 “… style only goes so far in the case of Bullet Train. It can’t make up for all the other problems, especially the leaky script, self-destructing humor, and bland visual effects. One for the crash-and-burn pile.” – Film International Aug 5, 2022 Full Review
