Welcome to Ransom Canyon, where love, loss, and loyalty collide beneath the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country. With three ranching family dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land, their lives and legacies are threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way of life. At the center of it all is stoic rancher Staten Kirkland, who is healing from heartbreaking loss and on a quest for vengeance. Staten’s only glimmer of hope rests in the eyes and heart of Quinn O’Grady, longtime family friend and owner of the local dancehall. But as the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past. Vise tightening, Staten fights to protect the land he calls home, and the only love that can pull him back from the demons that haunt him.

Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) The actors are gruffly charismatic, and their chemistry is genuine. But you wish their characters would just get a room and that Ransom Canyon busied itself with something more interesting than the dreariest will they/won’t they storyline... Rated: 2/5 Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Chris Vognar Boston Globe “Ransom Canyon” has almost as much “Friday Night Lights” in its DNA as “Yellowstone.” But where those shows were light on their feet, this one is merely lightweight. In the parlance of the region, it’s all hat, no cattle. Apr 18, 2025 Full Review Eric Deggans NPR It's a western-flavored mash up of predictable dramatics that makes [Taylor] Sheridan's work look like Shakespeare. Apr 17, 2025 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times Blair needs to distance her show from “Yellowstone” as much as possible. Keep the bare bones stuff: the thriller elements, the grown-ups’ romance, the turf wars, and jettison the rest. It’s all dime-store window dressing and has no staying power. Rated: 3/5 Apr 19, 2025 Full Review Joel Keller Decider No one is going to mistake Ransom Canyon for prestige television. But it’s certainly a soapy, guilty pleasure, anchored by performances from Duhamel and Kelly that make you want to see both of their characters get what they want, which is each other. Apr 17, 2025 Full Review Greg MacArthur Screen Rant Ransom Canyon, led by a lovable cast with surefire chemistry, finds ways to surprise you, make you laugh, and break your heart with Southern charm. Sandra J NEED SEASON 2 RN!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Ezra K A fun ride!! The family aspects make it feel real. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Maggie Y Don’t expect Ransom Canyon to be another Yellowstone. The two shows have some thematic parallels, but the conflict of predatory capitalists buying and gouging land for a buck was the driving force behind United States westward expansion, including the annexation of Texas so that plot isn’t exclusive to Montana. Yellowstone is dark, gritty, and violent while Ransom Canyon is more of a cozy, comfort series. Its tone is closer to a Ginny&Georgia, Virgin River, or Friday Night Lights. There’s room for both and I like a healthy balance of heavy content and easy escapism. The best book-to-screen adaptations are when the screen expands on the book and Ransom Canyon does a great job with shifting storylines to intertwine the characters more closely like making the Kirkland and the Collins families former in-laws and having Yancy Grey as the estranged grandson of Cap. There were enough characters, plots, and subplots to keep the trajectory going without confusing the audience. I do think that some of the characters and storylines need some finessing. Staton’s late wife needed more of a presence, if only her memory through dialogue, because her friendship with Quinn was the main obstacle in her feelings for Staton and his wife was the reason the rival Kirkland and Collins families were briefly one big family. The audience also needed more time with Staton’s son to feel emotionally invested in his sudden death. But I’m giving this five stars because I’d like a second season. And for the love of God, Lucas, do NOT pass on Yale for a high school relationship! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Tracey S Seriously, who wrote this? Horrible scripts, silly characters - stupid soap opera. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Paula V Cheesy.. sure. But very engaging, nice twist of romance, murder mystery and drama. I very much enjoyed & binged it… looking forward to season 2! Also loved the cast!
