The Accountant 2 (2025) 78% B- “When it’s functioning as an action comedy, it’s pretty fun, but director Gavin O’Connor pushes the narrative into some pretty dark places, climaxing with a sequence so that’s so over-the-top grim it almost becomes hilarious.” – Consequence Apr 23, 2025 Full Review Sinners (2025) 98% A- “With Sinners, Ryan Coogler confirms that he has a real talent for exploring and reinventing genres, while still telling a story that feels wholly original.” – Consequence Apr 10, 2025 Full Review A Minecraft Movie (2025) 48% B “It’s the faintest of praise to say that it's the best video game movie Jack Black has made in the last year. However, the Jared Hess-directed adventure is a relatively accessible, often enjoyable adaptation. ” – Consequence Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Death of a Unicorn (2025) 54% B “You can only consider “eat the rich” to be a zeitgeist-y concept if you forget about things like the French Revolution, but in these post-Succession/billionaire-dominated times, it doesn’t feel like a surprise that these stories have a cathartic effect. ” – Consequence Mar 25, 2025 Full Review Disney's Snow White (2025) 40% C+ “At the end of the day, the best parts of Snow White are the parts that feel genuinely real and authentic. If only there were more of those, and less screen time spent dancing in the realm of mind-breaking absurdity.” – Consequence Mar 19, 2025 Full Review The Electric State (2025) 15% “Hundreds of millions of dollars were spent on this muddled sci-fi adventure, filled with a lot of big ideas and ending with a message that virtual reality is bad and connecting with other people is good. (Bold and brave, to be sure.)” – Consequence Mar 14, 2025 Full Review Mickey 17 (2025) 77% B “Mickey 17 probably isn’t the Parasite follow-up anyone was really expecting — an often wild, narratively messy sci-fi comedy that definitely feels like it got re-edited a whole bunch between filming and release.” – Consequence Mar 4, 2025 Full Review The Monkey (2025) 79% A- “A movie that, above all else, invites you to laugh at the horrors of the world. Which, right now, feels really, really good.” – Consequence Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Captain America: Brave New World (2025) 48% B “Finally, Marvel has taken a firm stand on an issue of national — maybe even international — importance: Hulks should not be President.” – Consequence Feb 12, 2025 Full Review Kinda Pregnant (2025) 29% C+ “A movie that has nothing profound to say about where we are as a culture. Maybe that's its own cultural statement: In times of upheaval, we just want to watch attractive funny people fall in love despite a series of misunderstandings and lies.” – Consequence Feb 7, 2025 Full Review Predators (2025) 97% B “The core question Predators aims to explore isn't the motivations of the original men who were caught in Hansen's trap — it's why the show was fascinating viewing for so many people. ” – Consequence Feb 3, 2025 Full Review DJ Ahmet (2025) 89% “A quiet little underdog story, but with enough charm to engage any audience. Plus, there's a pink sheep who is frankly iconic.” – Consequence Feb 3, 2025 Full Review Train Dreams (2025) 97% A “There's a literary quality to Train Dreams that would be present even without the narration by Will Patton, its depiction of love and grief singing out in profound ways across its one hour and 42-minute runtime.” – Consequence Feb 2, 2025 Full Review Plainclothes (2025) 79% B- “Plainclothes has its moments, especially in its frank depiction of the awkward position of not-quite-acceptance faced by gay people in the 1990s. Yet it falls just short of greatness. ” – Consequence Feb 1, 2025 Full Review BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions (2025) 100% “A movie above else about art — the kinds of art that literally transform landscapes, the art of the past that was stolen, the art of today that imagines a different tomorrow. As such, its deeper meanings are very much left to the audience to determine.” – Consequence Feb 1, 2025 Full Review Sorry, Baby (2025) 95% B+ “A look at trauma that's at times wryly funny and other times emotionally devastating. ” – Consequence Feb 1, 2025 Full Review Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore (2025) 96% A- “Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore really makes an impact when it reveals what the hearing world may never understand about the deaf world, in ways only a director with Stern's remarkable empathy could achieve” – Consequence Jan 31, 2025 Full Review East of Wall (2025) 100% B “East of Wall could stand a tighter pace at some points, but Beecroft reveals herself as a deeply empathic filmmaker. ” – Consequence Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Didn't Die (2025) 63% B+ “For a story about the undead, Didn't Die has an air of freshness, and that's to be admired. ” – Consequence Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Flight Risk (2025) 30% C “Flight Risk has its funny moments, though none of them are funnier than when the end credits start and you’re reminded, once again, that this movie was directed by Mel Gibson. ” – Consequence Jan 23, 2025 Full Review Presence (2024) 88% A “Like so much of Soderbergh’s work, Presence proves so exciting because it’s a perfect example of concept and execution coming together for 90 minutes of cinema that delivers quite a punch.” – Consequence Jan 22, 2025 Full Review Ad Vitam (2025) 43% B- “You could remake this movie tomorrow in English with Liam Neeson as the lead. There’s some solid action throughout, with sequences that vaguely approach James Bond in their silliness.” – Consequence Jan 17, 2025 Full Review The Last Showgirl (2024) 83% B+ “Outside of her time in dressing rooms and on stage, Anderson doesn’t wear much makeup in the film, but that’s not what makes her performance brave. Instead, it’s the unflinching look she takes at the realities of life for all of us as we get older. ” – Consequence Jan 13, 2025 Full Review Better Man (2024) 88% A- “From the jump, Better Man makes bold choices that ultimately turn the feature-length examination of a famous performer’s life into something transcendent.” – Consequence Dec 19, 2024 Full Review A Complete Unknown (2024) 82% B “A Complete Unknown manages to avoid the worst of biopic tropes with its acceptance of the fact that for a figure like this, we’re never really meant to understand the full scope of the man he is.” – Consequence Dec 12, 2024 Full Review
