The Ugly Stepsister (2025) 96% “Everything that happens to Elvira — from a nose job to an extreme form of appetite suppression to eyelash extensions — are real procedures that are still practiced today. In a way this makes the horror more palpable, and more tragic.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Apr 18, 2025 Full Review Gaudi Afternoon (2001) 33% “Delayed a few times in the wake of 9/11 and definitely has a lot more in common with the kinds of whimsical mid-budget comedies that filled movie theaters in the late-1990s than it does with the early 2000s.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Apr 11, 2025 Full Review The Bookshop (2017) 57% “A film for book lovers that also both scratches that itch to chuck it all and move to the middle of nowhere, while also showing the seams of that fantasy.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Apr 11, 2025 Full Review Mainstream (2020) 40% “Not only skewers social media stardom and the very nature of the Hollywood machine itself, but also the way both reflect the increasingly shallow core values of contemporary society.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Apr 11, 2025 Full Review Neil Young: Coastal (2025) 79% “Hannah illustrates these moments with whimsical animation that transforms the imagery into the same otherworldly space that Young’s vocals occupy.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Apr 11, 2025 Full Review The Teacher (2023) 82% “The narrative has some structural issues, the lead performance from Saleh Bakri is sublime, as always.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Apr 11, 2025 Full Review Nora (2025) “Campbell’s performance is committed and the music videos are innovative in their various style and forms, yet the blending of the drama with them doesn’t quite work leaving the script feeling a bit underbaked. ” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Apr 10, 2025 Full Review I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) 69% “Works best when its sharp bite is aimed at the double standard within the film industry, but falters when it aims its much deserved anger at female pop stars rather than the system that built them and the media landscape that exploited & abused them.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Mar 29, 2025 Full Review A New Leaf (1971) 94% “It’s goofy and bleak and perfect.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Mar 29, 2025 Full Review Holy Cow (2024) 97% “A sweet and gorgeous looking love letter to Courvoisier’s rural home region” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Mar 29, 2025 Full Review Holland (2025) 21% “It's trying for some kind of heightened, stylized tone a la Brian De Palma’s 80s film, but it doesn’t work at all, and the obtrusive score absolutely does the bland visuals no favors. ” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Mar 29, 2025 Full Review Sugar (2008) 93% “I was really taken by how slick and emotional the film is, and by the striking lead performance for Algenis Perez Soto as the titular Dominican ballplayer, whose nickname is Sugar.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Mar 25, 2025 Full Review The Fishbowl (2023) 93% “A melancholic film about one woman’s journey towards autonomy and steadfast resistance at the end of her life, but also a sharp critique of the ecological and social consequences of the U.S. Military’s poisonous colonialism. ” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Mar 25, 2025 Full Review The Assessment (2024) 82% “The film is at times absurd, other times hilarious, and often just plain bleak. It also features a scene-stealing scorched earth monologue from Minnie Driver that is among the best work she has ever done. ” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Mar 25, 2025 Full Review Leila and the Wolves (1984) “A great and necessary feminist film.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Mar 18, 2025 Full Review Bloat (2025) 29% 1.5 “Imagine a J-horror plot involving a child possessed by a swamp demon told through the aesthetics of the screenlife found footage subgenre, and you can pretty much imagine how writer-director Pablo Absento‘s new film, “Bloat,” will play out. ” – RogerEbert.com Mar 8, 2025 Full Review Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus (2024) “A beautiful tribute to a woman who was larger than life and extremely talented, but who was also, I fear, ahead of her time. ” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Mar 8, 2025 Full Review Plainclothes (2025) 79% “The way the film switches various digital and film formats to go in and out of Lucas' interiority and to show that he is so deeply broken that he is his own surveillance state really worked for me.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Feb 28, 2025 Full Review Middletown (2025) 100% “I particularly I liked that the teacher in this didn’t dupe his students into thinking they live in a democracy, but insists that they should still show civic duty as if they do by speaking truth to power.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Feb 28, 2025 Full Review Zodiac Killer Project (2025) 85% “A slick piece of media criticism that uses humor to dissect how the true crime genre has lost the plot ethically (or maybe never had it to begin with) as it has become a cottage industry with its own formula for easy consumer consumption.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Feb 28, 2025 Full Review By Design (2025) 71% “Amanda Kramer’s films are some of the few that I would actually call Lynchian, because they are not at all like his films, but are so singular in their execution and logic that they could only be made by Kramer. ” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Feb 28, 2025 Full Review Endless Cookie (2025) “The film is as heartfelt as it is absurd and the conversations and stories are so riveting I found myself almost in trance as I watched this doc. I can’t wait to watch it again.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Feb 28, 2025 Full Review Sorry, Baby (2025) 95% “I was swept up by how emotional and raw the film was without being too obvious or over the top.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Feb 28, 2025 Full Review The Perfect Neighbor (2025) 100% “ The film not only examines the racial bias inherent in “stand your ground” laws, but also the canyon sized gaps that allowed the woman who committed the murder to continually abuse the 911 system without any repercussions.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Feb 28, 2025 Full Review Twinless (2025) 95% “James Sweeney deftly manages the film’s many plot and emotional twists with aplomb, while Dylan O’Brien continues to shine as one of the brightest actors of his generation.” – Cool People Have Feelings, Too.
