The Accountant 2 (2025) 77% 4/5 “It’s a solid, entertaining action flick making Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal a new action duo worth rooting for.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Apr 25, 2025 Full Review The Wedding Banquet (2025) 88% 4/5 “Andrew Ahn’s update on The Wedding Banquet is beautiful and endearing while depicting the nuanced and layered complexities within queer relationships.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Apr 17, 2025 Full Review Sinners (2025) 98% 5/5 “Ryan Coogler has a stunning film on his hands. He's one of the most unique and engaging filmmakers of our time.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Apr 16, 2025 Full Review A Nice Indian Boy (2024) 96% 4/5 “A Nice Indian Boy comes under the gentle direction of Roshan Sethi who knows all the ways to play up this storybook romance while still making this a relatable and realistic story. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Apr 10, 2025 Full Review Freaky Tales (2024) 74% 3/5 “Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden have a stylish film on their hands. They mix real life figures with fictional characters, established actors next to first-time performers. Their take on freaky is not so much scary, but rather, coincidental and wacky in nature.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Apr 4, 2025 Full Review The Friend (2024) 83% 3.5/5 “David Siegel and Scott McGehee give this film a gentle pace allowing for that mourning period. It never races through just to be a happy cute dog movie. The Friend may sit with you longer than you expected.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Hell of a Summer (2023) 52% 3/5 “Directors Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk keep this a character and dialogue driven slasher over relying on brutal kills to drive the action. The actors are all having a great time as their characters hurl snappy retorts at each other.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Death of a Unicorn (2025) 54% 3/5 “The movie’s action scenes work well if you’re rooting for the unicorns to viciously dismember the Leopold family. I do wish he would have amped up the satire and went to the extremes for how he wrote that family. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Mar 27, 2025 Full Review The Rule of Jenny Pen (2024) 71% 3/5 “Both Rush and Lithgow fully commit as actors to the madness and psychosis of the characters. The film needs their gravitas and sensibilities to make this work. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Mar 21, 2025 Full Review The Electric State (2025) 15% 2.5/5 “This film comes with a massive budget, and I wish this would have played in theaters to feel this world come to life. It feels a bit stunted in the streaming landscape.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Mar 12, 2025 Full Review Last Breath (2025) 80% 3.5/5 “Last Breath is a gripping story that still finds the intimate personal moments amid a perilous life or death ordeal. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Feb 27, 2025 Full Review The Gorge (2025) 63% 3.5/5 “It may be lean on story, but its character work sets it apart from other direct to streaming films like this feel like a bloated CGI mess. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Feb 25, 2025 Full Review The Monkey (2025) 79% 3.5/5 “The Monkey is knowingly made for a very specific audience, which isn’t a bad thing. Osgood Perkins understands that and brings out the twisted, playful side of Stephen King many of us revel in.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Feb 24, 2025 Full Review Captain America: Brave New World (2025) 48% 3/5 “Captain America: Brave New World is not breaking any new ground but it’s throwback feel is a reminder that less can be more for Marvel when they have a great cast and simple story to tell.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Feb 13, 2025 Full Review Kinda Pregnant (2025) 29% 2/5 “The script works best in its commentary on the public reactions and attitude around pregnant women...It’s the forced humor like when Lainy uses a cooked turkey as her baby bump that just falls flat. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Feb 7, 2025 Full Review Heart Eyes (2025) 81% 3.5/5 “Director Josh Ruben leans into this style and knows the right execution for this rom-com meets slasher. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Companion (2025) 93% 4/5 “Drew Hancock doesn’t overly pad this story but keeps Companion zipping along throughout its 90 minute runtime. It’s not particularly scary but its thrills and kills will keep the horror community satisfied.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Back in Action (2025) 28% 2.5/5 “It’s mindless entertainment when you want something better to reunite Diaz and Foxx. Either lean into the stunts and the gadgets like a Mission Impossible or lean into the tropes and humor like Spy. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Nickel Boys (2024) 91% 4.5/5 “Nickel Boys is the kind of film that you meditate on its images and meaning. You can’t possibly take it all in on one setting as the visual poetry and stream of larger life connections is worth unpacking. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Jan 22, 2025 Full Review Unstoppable (2024) 76% 2/5 “Anthony Robles story deserves to be told, I just wish it would have been given a better treatment to make Anthony Robles and Jharrel Jerome shine.” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Jan 16, 2025 Full Review September 5 (2024) 93% 4/5 “Right off the bat, you feel the urgency Fehlbaum has instilled in this film. There’s a brief set up ...and then it’s a race against the clock with high stakes energy put into covering what these journalists went through. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Jan 15, 2025 Full Review The Room Next Door (2024) 81% 4/5 “[Moore and Swinton] seem so comfortable and easy with each other as scene partners that there’s a fluidity in their friendship both on screen and off. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Jan 11, 2025 Full Review The Last Showgirl (2024) 83% 4.5/5 “Gia Coppola has a deeply moving film on her hands as she lets her small cast shine in roles we’re not used to seeing from them. There’s trust and guidance in letting them shine like the performers they’re playing. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Jan 10, 2025 Full Review Queer (2024) 77% 2/5 “Luca Guadgnino doesn’t force feed a lot onto his audience and part of that enigmatic quality may belong to William S. Burrough’s novel. Your familiarity to the author may provide a better understanding of the film and its characters. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Dec 19, 2024 Full Review The Brutalist (2024) 93% 4.5/5 “There are few filmmakers working today who approach their films with the same scope and scale on what Brady Corbet has accomplished with The Brutalist. He’s a filmmaker seemingly working from another era. ” – Paul's Trip to the Movies Dec 19, 2024 Full Review
