MaXXXine (2024) 72% 1/5 “'MaXXXine' is frustrating because it rehashes the themes of the past two films, stripping them of all subtlety without even being remotely scary” – Rappler Jul 8, 2024 Full Review A Quiet Place: Day One (2024) 86% 3/5 “Conceptually, this is genius. Put the monsters whose source of terror is noise in one of the noisiest places imaginable... I wish the people were dumber... because the process of them figuring out how to survive would have been immensely interesting. ” – Rappler Jul 1, 2024 Full Review Ghostlight (2024) 99% 4/5 “What transpires is simple and poignant, no fireworks or extravagant set pieces, with many errors and amateur mistakes – but isn't this what healing looks like?” – Rappler Jun 28, 2024 Full Review Hit Man (2023) 95% 4.5/5 “Glen Powell must transform into Glen Powell, and he must do so by acting. There is no lower-hanging fruit to romanticize than that.” – Sinegang Jun 19, 2024 Full Review Inside Out 2 (2024) 91% 3.5/5 “While the four new emotions introduce fun and inventive layers to Riley's brain, the core structure of Inside Out 2 is nothing but a retread” – Rappler Jun 17, 2024 Full Review Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) 90% 4/5 “While not as good as Fury Road (what film can be?), Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth deliver a revenge flick filled with inimitable action and epic performances” – Rappler May 26, 2024 Full Review Challengers (2024) 88% 4.5/5 “This [final] scene is enough to leave even those who are new to tennis or generally indifferent to it... believe that, just for a moment, they are watching the sexiest film ever made.” – Rappler Apr 29, 2024 Full Review Rebel Moon: Part Two - The Scargiver (2024) 16% 1/5 “Seven Samurai, one of this film’s unequivocal inspirations, had three hours to endear us to the seven village defenders... Rebel Moon had four hours, and I still can’t confidently name three of the warriors. ” – Rappler Apr 24, 2024 Full Review Civil War (2024) 81% 3.5/5 “Civil War asks whether photojournalism can enact change or just breed ruthlessness during times of conflict. It’s about how each photograph, if misguided, can numb murder and insurrection — how it makes us not feel rather than feel.” – Rappler Apr 18, 2024 Full Review Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024) 42% 1/5 “Despite the amazing talent on and off camera, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a soulless film because it is a business decision first, and a work of art second.” – Rappler Mar 22, 2024 Full Review Lisa Frankenstein (2024) 52% 3/5 “Lisa Frankenstein cobbles together a patchwork of fleshed out characters, particularly Kathryn Newton and the scene-stealing Liza Soberano, but the story's stitches and bolts are still filled with clichés and faults.” – Rappler Feb 11, 2024 Full Review Between the Temples (2024) 85% 4/5 “Between The Temples is a funny, irreverent, and occasionally surrealist depiction of Jewish processing of grief and personal crisis.” – Rappler Feb 1, 2024 Full Review Poor Things (2023) 93% 4.5/5 “Lanthimos finally reaches the zenith of his artistic credo: combining the absurdist entrapment of Dogtooth with the Frankensteinian bombast of old Hollywood. ” – Sinegang Dec 31, 2023 Full Review Afire (2023) 91% 4.5/5 “In its final act, be prepared to be swept off your feet by a harrowing tone shift.” – Sinegang Dec 31, 2023 Full Review Anatomy of a Fall (2023) 96% 5/5 “In the process of watching the film, we are drawn not into the act of violence against flesh, but rather the creation of it. Finding out who Sandra is, who Daniel is, and who Samuel was. I recommend you to get to know them as soon as you can.” – Sinegang Dec 31, 2023 Full Review Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) 93% 4.5/5 “What elevates it is Scorsese’s candid admission that, as a filmmaker marked by his own limited experiences, his role is a storyteller, an old sage paying tribute to the dead and unearthing the humanity lost to decades of injustice and inequality.” – Sinegang Dec 31, 2023 Full Review Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire (2023) 22% 2.5/5 “Zack Snyder’s ambitious sci-fi endeavor is more video game than film, which is a good thing for some, but might be boring for others.” – Rappler Dec 31, 2023 Full Review Maestro (2023) 78% 2/5 “Maestro develops its characters through missing bits, making the film unwhole and underwhelming despite impressive performances and cinematography” – Rappler Dec 23, 2023 Full Review The Taste of Things (2023) 97% 5/5 “The Taste of Things eloquently speaks the language of love through the art of cooking, and as a viewer, one can't help but be swept away by the warmth of its storytelling” – Rappler Dec 9, 2023 Full Review The Missing (2023) 100% 4.5/5 “The film consistently shatters the boundaries of its visual style...It is not only creatively rich, but brimming with emotional depth and heartfelt poise.” – Rappler Nov 28, 2023 Full Review The Holdovers (2023) 97% 3.5/5 “While The Holdovers conjures warm and nostalgic storytelling with its ’70s found family spirit and trio of outstanding performances — especially Da’Vine Joy Randolph — its emotional impact is stunted by its fractured focus.” – Smash Cut Reviews Nov 21, 2023 Full Review The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) 64% 3.5/5 “It’s haunting without losing the balance of its sappy romance and battle royale shenanigans. It sparks renewed enthusiasm for a more mature audience, providing focus on the story’s astute power dynamics and the unraveling of bureaucratic hypocrisies.” – Rappler Nov 20, 2023 Full Review Priscilla (2023) 84% 4/5 “Coppola ditches the flashy Elvis musical numbers, opting for the authenticity brought to life by the inspired performances of Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi.” – Rappler Nov 6, 2023 Full Review The Killer (2023) 85% 4/5 “It’s evil lurking within the ordinary and fueled by technological paranoia. The act of killing isn’t the main event; it’s the mundane procedures that come before it” – Rappler Oct 28, 2023 Full Review Cobweb (2023) 74% 2.5/5 “It’s a shame that the last act of this film is the only part that truly enthralled me because its concept – a director trying to shoot an alternative ending to a film only to be met by chaos and censorship – is a truckload of fun.” – Rappler Oct 6, 2023 Full Review
