A Quiet Place: Day One (2024) 86% 2.5/4 “Even with Nyong’o and Quinn, and even with the movie’s emphasis on how people deal with impending death, Day One comes across as a familiar, slight, routine horror flick.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 (2024) 51% 2/4 “An American Saga? ... Chapter 1? ... It all seems a bit much, and we haven’t even started the film. And then, once we do, it’s soon we realize that, yes, Horizon most certainly is a bit much, and also not enough. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review The Bikeriders (2023) 80% 4/4 “While it’s Comer’s work that left my mouth agape, Butler and the always amazing Tom Hardy, as motorcycle-gang leader Johnny, also are brilliant in what easily is one of the best biker movies ever made” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Thelma (2024) 98% 3/4 “While the film is, in keeping with the elderly characters, slow-paced, and, at times, far-fetched, its gentle humor and warm heart will likely win over moviegoers.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Daddio (2023) 76% 4/4 “Penn and Johnson are in top form in this focused, intense, moving drama from Christy Hall.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review My Old Ass (2024) 90% 3.5/4 “Writer-director Megan Park’s bittersweet, warm coming-of-age comedy suggests that love leaves us open to pain and tragedy, but that it’s worth it.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Merchant Ivory (2023) 95% 3.5/4 “Stephen Soucy’s in-depth documentary covers the personal and professional relationship of director James Ivory and producer Ismael Merchant, and the films they made (mostly) with screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story (2024) 95% 3.5/4 “Most fascinating is how, despite Minnelli exhibiting a theatrical personality, you can sense that, deep down, exists a caring, genuine person.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Sing Sing (2023) 97% 3.5/4 “Greg Kwedar’s sensitive drama shows the power of art and community.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution (2024) 100% 3/4 “Highlights include a rare, controversial clip of Richard Pryor confronting a gay audience and a look at the career of Robin Tyler, the first lesbian or gay comic to come out on national 온라인카지노추천. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Hit Man (2023) 95% 3/4 “The film’s at its best in the funny early sequences, as Gary successfully takes on the tough, assured hit-man persona and fools a variety of customers into revealing their deadly intentions during restaurant meetings.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review The Watchers (2024) 33% 2/4 “It’s mostly all buildup without a knockout punch.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Treasure (2024) 42% 2.5/4 “Despite the heavy subject matter, you never get entirely pulled into the story; you’re always aware that it’s just a movie, that Dunham and Fry are just playing characters, regardless of whether they’re based on real people. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Flipside (2023) 97% 4/4 “The segments blend into something profound, as they deal with life’s choices, the passage of time, finding meaning – all exemplified by the lives of Wilcha’s subjects. ... One of the film’s messages: It’s never too late. That is, until it is. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review The Dead Don't Hurt (2023) 86% 3.5/4 “The whole cast is outstanding, but Krieps ... stands out with her nuanced performance as a strong woman trying to hold her own in an unmerciful world dominated by men. Despite this setting, though, Mortensen is able ... to find beauty amid the violence. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Ezra (2023) 70% 2.5/4 “Parents in a similar situation might find that Ezra rings true. ... Also, Byrne is quite convincing as the distraught mom. But, on the whole, the film seems forced ... especially in its painfully contrived grand finale.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 17, 2024 Full Review Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) 90% 3/4 “There’s a lot to enjoy here despite the underwhelming central character or that, other than the great opening chase, Furiosa leaves us feeling we’ve seen much of this before.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 10, 2024 Full Review Back to Black (2024) 35% 3.5/4 “Back to Black tells a familiar story. ... But it still works, thanks ... to the dynamic central character, her knockout music, and the passionate performance of Marisa Abella, who plays – and sings as – Winehouse. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 10, 2024 Full Review Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) 80% 2.5/4 “This ho-hum adventure has all of the suspense and excitement of a trip to McDonald’s.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 10, 2024 Full Review The Old Oak (2023) 82% 4/4 “Loach has built a career fighting the good fight, and continues to do so, even at this point in his life.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 10, 2024 Full Review Evil Does Not Exist (2023) 91% 3/4 “Ryusuke Hamaguchi ... works his usual magic, in which a seemingly ordinary conversation in a car is as riveting as anything on a battlefield. But then he shifts gears at the end, hammering his point home through forced metaphor. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 10, 2024 Full Review The Fall Guy (2024) 82% 2.5/4 “It starts out great, thanks to its charming stars ... and lots of funny bits. But, this is about a stuntman, and at a certain point the action sequences take over and don’t let up. By the end, I was tired – and not in a good way. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 10, 2024 Full Review The Idea of You (2024) 81% 2.5/4 “Once the romantic situation and its obstacles are established is when the film starts to falter. OK, maybe this relationship is not going to work. Wait, maybe it will. Nope. Yep. The back and forth becomes contrived. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Aug 10, 2024 Full Review Challengers (2024) 88% 2.5/4 “It’s as if the movie is playing its own tennis match. It’s cruising along, and looks to be on its way to victory. But then along come some unforced errors ... and the tide turns. Game, set, match. Better luck next time. Still ... Zendaya is pretty great. ” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Jul 21, 2024 Full Review The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024) 68% 3/4 “Ministry lacks the stylistic flourishes, the exuberance and the edginess of the director’s best films – Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels ... , Snatch, RocknRolla and The Gentlemen – but if you’re looking for war-flick escapism, it does the trick.” – Cape Cod Wave Magazine Jul 21, 2024 Full Review
