The Eye Reviews

Mar 1, 2025

America really needs to stop remaking great foreign movies cause they can't ever match the greatness of any of the orginals. I give this movie a 1.5 cause the acting was good and a great job by Jessica Alba but just the story has been watered down and the practical effects are not that good. Stick to watching the Japanese version it's very good. This one not so much.

The Eye had the potential to be a gripping psychological horror, but it fell short in depth and originality. The plot follows a familiar formula without bringing much new to the table, making it predictable despite some intriguing moments. The directing is solid, with well-timed transitions and a smooth shift into the second act. Cinematography stands out in certain scenes, especially with the contrast between reality and visions, and small production details show attention to realism. However, while the visuals are effective, they don't fully compensate for the film’s lack of emotional weight. Jessica Alba’s performance is serviceable but lacks the intensity needed to carry a psychological horror film. She maintains the same on-screen presence she’s known for, but it doesn’t elevate the script, which already struggles with depth. The supporting cast does a decent job, though no one truly stands out. The script itself feels basic, relying on surface-level tension rather than digging into the psychological aspects of the story. The sound design helps build atmosphere, but it doesn’t leave a lasting impact. Overall, The Eye is watchable with good production value and some eerie moments, but it doesn’t push boundaries or leave a strong impression.

People say the story is bad but love the original, which is exactly the same... I enjoy this film, Alba's acting isn't as bad as people say. I feel people put "remakes" down just because they are remakes.

Uuugghhhhh… this film, what to even say??? other than despite it being a remake it's horrible, writing and cgi are just there, Jessica Alba acts as the most bland, most trope riddled character, the doctor character is a cardboard cut out, far from what the original character was in the 2002 Hong Kong Singaporean original…. this film suffers from being a remake, if you're wondering why hollywood has troubles today, it's because of poor financial decisions like this… There's nothing really scary and horror about this film, no love, no care and made solely for profit… one good or interesting thing is that it just exists on some store shelves….

A decent horror flick that doesn't insult my intelligence, but I'm not the biggest fan of horror movies and this movie is a predictable snore fest.

Jessica Alba in probably her only horror movie Truth be told this isn't an awful one She stars as a young woman Sydney who went blind as a kid and is now a violinist Her sister played by Parker Posey helps her from time to time She gets excited to learn she's getting an operation for a new pair of eyes It seems to be a miracle but she's seeing things that aren't really there; supernatural beings begin haunting her everywhere she goes Now it's up to her to find out who her donor was and put a stop to these horrific hallucinations after all its deadly circumstances that are not her own she's experiencing Sydney gets help from her doctor too It's actually one of the better Asian remakes And I'm happy the ending wasn't terrible There's well-timed scares, Alba is very sympathetic with the nuances knowing she wants to be normal again, and the reasoning for this woman's visions actually gets a bit interesting like it or not It is frightening too when we can become the unfortunate victim of someone else's pain and suffering from the afterlife, knowing we have no control over what we feel or see Some of the ghost effects look dodgy and anyone who has a phobia of eyes being messed with should stay clear; suspending some disbelief and some redundancy is expected too Not sure how much of it stays true to the source material but this still proves to be a worthy PG-13 horror flick

Such a strange and uncomfortable movie. Acting and story were both bad

Quite a bad movie. The plot is unconvincingly dumb, holes everywhere. I read the bed reviews but I just had to watch for myself.

This movie was actually really good. It shows how when donors donate and their organs hold memories. This shows how this woman's (the donor) gift of being a psychic and her memories were being put to great use through the person who got her eyes. It's brilliant. She may not have saved lives when the first accident happened, but she did when the other one did. She saved several lives. It's sad that she took her own life because the towns people were calling her a bruja (witch) because she didn't save lives with that first accident, but she was a great help when that other accident happened. GREAT MOVIE.

somewhat confusing but interesting film.

I didn't realize Jessica Alba was that bad of an actress. It reminded me way too much of "Sixth Sense". It actually is based on a foreign film, with which I am not familiar. The acting was just so bad, though... I can't feel anything for this film. I'm sure the original is leagues better than this cheap rendition.

Some things didn't make sense even at the ending. Maybe it should have been The Eyes rather than singular. Well acted and directed. Weak story. Not so glad I saw it.

Jessica Alba's leading performance does little in a chance to make The Eye an alright horror film but provides so little scares.

I don't really watch horror flicks, but even so this film feels like a retread of better films. It isn't awful, but there is nothing particularly memorable about it one way or the other. Jessica Alba is a blind woman who gets an eye transplant so she can see. The eye is, of course, cursed and she can see death coming. They COULD MAYBE have done something interesting here, but they did a workmanlike job on it. Also, Alba is young, attractive and likes to shower on camera. So there is that.

A very interesting plot and story. At first you don't actually know what's going on, but as the movie passes, you'll understand how everything is connected. The jumpscares are very predictable tho.

Performances are a little below average and the plot is predictable- It also doesn't add anything new to the original; however, "The Eye" is a good supernatural thriller.

Couple of jolts to start with before fading into something ridiculous whilst retained oppositely that would most likely leave you unimpressed since there is no sight to behold. (C+)

All I really have to say about this movie is why does a corneal transplant that allows you to see ghosts also allow you to hear them?
