Shutter Reviews

I, for one, absolutely loved this film. It may have been because I watched it aboard a cruise ship at 2 A.M., but I loved it. I was making fun of it for being a little too cliché up until the end, where the twist genuinely surprised me and changed my whole view of the film. Some pretty good visual effects for its time, and I felt that the acting was very good as well. Will definitely be watching this at my next sleepover, very enjoyable film.

Not as bad as the One Missed Call remake but still a boring & cliche affair, the American SHUTTER is neither spooky nor interesting.

Probably the most forgettable movie in the J horror remake boom. If Joshua Jackson (D2: The Mighty Ducks, Americano) the only big star you can get you know your movie has a big problem

I actually enjoyed this movie. The remake has little scary scenes. The story is different compared to the original, but it is funny to me actually but also good at the same time. It's just my opinion.

Patience is a verttu due to being a very slow burn of the camera flashing... not great for those that hate strobes 😎👎

The original is better.

First thing I'm going to say about this, and it is a positive, Megumi Okina does a good job at least being scary/intimidating, other than that this movie is pretty non existent for majority of its runtime… being a remake of a foreign film, the wise choice would've been to set it in Thailand??? but no, they brought Masayuki Ochiai on board, Masayuki is best known for Parasite Eve (1997) and Infection (2004), he much later directed an entry in the Ju-On film series. Which this means this is set in Japan, solely to match The Grudge… it's non original, tries to do what The Grudge did, brought Roy Lee on board, someone who was keene in the west, especially when it came to The Grudge 1 & 2… the culture shock is non existent as well, yet again this film does an american portrayal of Japanese culture and pretty much says "wow isn't culture weird". That's the impression I get when watching the film, the lighting is so copy and pasted from other horror films, blue, grungy and just non original, a major factor this film/remake suffers from.

Shutter made me shudder (but not because it was scary).

I was really entertained by this movie, consistently spooky throughout, and I really enjoyed the concept. Pretty surprised that the ratings were so poor.

Ummm... well, it looked cheap, for starters. And I will admit that the last few minutes of the movie was a really nice reveal. But the ending doesn't make up for the first 99% of the movie being terrible. The acting was bad. There was too much lag. There was too much "so what". If they could just make the beginning of the movie more dynamic, it would be a good film. Put some more zeros in the budget.

I found myself more invested in the story as a murder mystery than a ghost haunting which was good since Shutter falls short on scares in every possible way but not on a good reveal at the end.

The best part of the film was the last 15 minutes. Did the Ben & Jane car in the beginning have Thai license plates? All photogs are more or less creeps so that confirmed my prejudice. I live in Malaysia where supernatural stuff is often part of ordinary soap opera type of programs. Indonesia much the same. Dead wife's ghost might be long running role. I liked the Japanese locations.

Nothing great of a horror. Husband and friends ruin a girl, girl comes back to haunt them.

Boring, predictable, low budget, cheap jumpscares. Those are the best terms to describe this movie. Not worth your time.

Why do filmmakers think it's a good idea to take bad movies and remake them? Nothing to see here, folks. Drive on.

Awesome movie would see again.

I think that there were some pretty well done and even spooky scenes, but overall it wasn't very good.

I found this yesterday and thought it might be worth checking out but sadly this was a poor horror film. The twists and turns never deliver and the horror moments are just cliché moments. The poor remakes of Asian horror continues and considering the cast, this was a massive misfire. I was slightly annoyed they went with the finale twist, that was quite stupid and over the top. It would have been nice if the filmmakers respected the source material and went all out, this feels too safe. This had a lot of potential but a poor choice with filmmaker and a script that required further work, this was dead on arrival. Such a shame. 25/09/2018.
