Season of the Witch Reviews

Feb 20, 2025

I truly have to wonder how a movie such as this with Ron Perlman and Nicholas Cage could fail so poorly. These rolls look as though they were tailor-made specifically for these two actors but somehow the story itself was flat some have called it slow paced but my God snails move faster.

everything was great up until the story revealed itself. Then it became hokum. great actors, director, realism, until it became pure fantasy and plunged south with a much too fanciful and poorly thought out idea.

Man, this movie gets alot of hate, and I honestly don't know why. It has atmosphere, horror and a great final act. I loved the whole ride the movie took you on whether the caged girl was a witch or not. Don't listen to all the negative reviews, watch for yourself and decide. I really liked this movie and glad I didn't follow the flock on their opinions. I really do believe there are different movies for different people. This movie was made for people like me, someone who would appreciate and like the story. Barbie move gets 83% and would never be a movie I would like.

Although I've seen this film before, I didn't fully understand it the first time as I was probably distracted. This time watching it on streaming there is far more to the story than just witches. Nothing is what it seems and the two knights, played by Nicolas Cage and Ron Pearlman, who felt their years of crusades were a waste of time, were actually being prepared for a far greater task. Claire Foy always a pleasure to watch and a good actress plays a "gifted woman" accused of being a witch, but is much, much more. I thought it was a good and surprising twist with a good ending.

I thought for sure it would be bad from the reviews- and I normally do not like this genre of movies, but I thought it was good! Was not too long and the ending was noble and good so I can sleep tonight ;) My son who is 16 did not like it but he likes non stop action! haha he just said that while I was writing. Great movie

Not as bad as the reviews made it. When the story was ambiguous, that is where the movie should've been! The ending is trash!!! I had no problem with the American accents; my favourite recent period movie 'The last Duel' had American accents. It also has a quality cast. Foy as the witch, Stephen Graham as a scroundrel. Obviously Cage and Pearlman.

Underrated, much better than lots of stuff out there.

Awful in so many ways: too cheap to function as a blockbuster, too slow to enjoy as popcorn, too dull to work as camp, throws away the pairing of Cage and Perlman, and is really ultimately unsure thematically if it endorses or opposes the idea that one should burn witches. If it excels in any way, perhaps it's the movie that wins the coveted niche award of "perhaps the dumbest thing on the intellectual tree of The Seventh Seal." It somehow feels an hour longer than it is.

Although a little rough around the edges at the start, and putting aside American accents in a European medieval setting, this dark super-natural action adventure has plenty of story, plot twists and action to make this one of the better movies in this genre.

Wow! I sure am glad I didn't watch this when everyone else seems to have! The cast is a heady selection of real talent - something that wouldn't have been as notable when it was released. The development of the story and the two protagonists is considered and methodical, which adds to the slow building mystery and suspense. It has the feel of a 1990's fantasy action adventure movie, with the settings and tone working well in support of the supernatural elements of the story. The performances are all excellent, and the effects are good too. I even thought the demon was done well enough, though the actor's voice doesn't seem the correct fit for the role. Overall, I think this is a well made witches broth, and I'd watch it again

It's a wonderful motion picture, Season of the Witch, 2011...

'What did you think of the movie' In a word 'nothing' Nicholas Cage must be short of a few bob if he has to make such childish films as this. Where's the Drama where's the credibility. I waisted and hour or so of my life watching this garbage.

Pretty horrible movie in all ways. 2/10 for the effort though.

A solid B movie carried by Perlman and Cage, it's better than a majority of similar films.

It's an old joke. Is Cage the worst actor ever or is he the best actor ever. Honestly it's hard to tell. What's easy to tell is that this movie was terrible.

Hey it has MF ghost rider and hell boy lol and it ain't the worst from 2011

Better than I expected. Nick and Ron may be a little old for the characters they play but they do a great job. The story is simple enough and has some great moments of tension. More of an adventure film than horror. The third act os a little silly but the cast and crew play it straight and it works well with that. If it's on, give it a watch.

This film is ideal film to see him with whole family, this film isn't sensual oк tough, this film is good actio, cameraman's and sound engineer's works are good and beautiful. Scritp isn't very exiting or special, he is interesting.

Inoffensive dark age/crusade fodder. The cast, locations and 40 million dollar budget seemed to be more than enough to make this film seriously good all around. An enjoyable late night pic that would be enjoyable if lightly drunk.

This is not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination but i really do enjoy it. Its a feel-good movie for me. Whether its a rainy day, sick day, or just October it always makes me comfortable in my bed.
