Foul Play Reviews
This breezy picture was clearly inspired by the Alfred Hitchcock filmography.

Foul Play may not date as well as one would like but still prove to be charming, often-hilarious and a fabulous vehicle for one of the screen’s greatest female stars.

At 116 minutes, there’s simply too much space for momentum to dissipate, whether from gags like Burgess Meredith as an unexpected action hero or vivid automobile stunts, and Foul Play feels as much like a missed opportunity now as in its heyday.

...a comfortably familiar premise that's employed to somewhat overlong yet mostly entertaining effect...

Colin Higgins proves himself adept at recreating the style and themes of Hitchcock's films, as well as creating entertaining schemes. [Full Review in Spanish]

Somewhere in the cumbersome comedy thriller Colin Higgins has made of Foul Play, lies the ghost of a good, old-fashioned mystery-comedy-romance.

One recognizes the romantic comedy impulse behind the sexual sparrings of Hawn and Chase. It's the execution that leaves everything to be desired.

Incredibly silly but very enjoyable ...

Farcical '70s comedy-mystery hybrid has violence, profanity.

Goldie Hawn charms her way through this comic Hitchcock homage.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jun 13, 2015
The comedy/thriller plods on for too long with tasteless and witless physical comedy, though it has a few funny moments.

Writer Colin Higgins makes a good directorial bow.

A funny, successful, and very derivative crime-comedy.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Oct 30, 2007
The film clumsily and sluggishly mixes humor and suspense and fails at both.
| Original Score: 2/4 | May 26, 2006
Unsatisfactory as a whole, the film is hilarious and tense in bits.

Occasionally fun, it features Chase trying to assert himself as an action heartthrob and Hawn charming as in almost all of her films at the time. However, it is a disposable film.

Chevy when he was funny, Goldie when she was starting her heyday, and Dudley too. What a deal.

Mr. Higgins's penchant for mixing visual elegance with coarse gags is equally ill-advised, especially because it makes him work the gags so hard.
