Sleeping Beauty Reviews
All these years later and still extremely charming, with a very short sharp run-time. Great characters, fantastic animation and a very traditional fairytale storyline. Love the fairy godmothers.
While People who complain about the portrayal of female roles in early Disney movies are within their rights, they may overlook characters such as fairy godmothers , that were very nuanced and well written. Not my favourite Disney movie, but definitely worth a see
Sleeping Beauty brings the audience and all people a stunning display of art, magic, charm, and true villainy from Maleficent and it's wonderful and iconic cast of characters.
Thus film is peak silver era. Its high budget shows and the prince actual kniws her before he kisses her nonconsensually. (Its still wrong)
"Sleeping Beauty" holds a special place in my heart, mainly because my mom used to read this version of the book to me every night. The typical Disney charm is undeniable, with the evil Maleficent being the real star of the show—she’s pure evil in the best way possible. The fairies' interactions are super fun, and honestly, I could watch them bicker all day. The animation and cinematography are pure art, especially the backgrounds; they’re just so visually stunning. It’s my second time watching this film, and I’m still left with a bit of an “eh” feeling about Aurora and the Prince. They’re probably my least favorite characters, and I just don’t vibe with them as much. Despite that, it’s still an enjoyable watch and a solid fairytale. Maybe not a personal favorite, but it’s got enough magic to keep me entertained.
Such a great childhood! The Maleficent Dragon is so cool!
A lot of these old Disney Princess movies follow a similar pattern and that has hurt these films in the long run. They're not necessarily bad movies, in fact, they still hold a lot of charm and love to them. Their only problems are predictability, lack of development of the prince, and heavy focus on the side characters rather than the main characters.
An absolutely stunning, captivating picture with gorgeous music and engaging characters, Sleeping Beauty is criminally underrated and was unfortunately buried by the huge (and might I say unnecessary) success of Cinderella. I am 15 and when Once Upon a Dream started playing, I had chills and tears began running down my face. With an amazing final battle scene and visuals that rival Fantasia's, Sleeping Beauty deserves so, so much more recognition.
The animation, the background, the musical score, everything about Sleeping Beauty is just magical
It's much more epic than previous Disney movies. Haunting soundtrack, one of the most iconic villains... this is a true Disney classic.
Another Disney classic with a fantastic and iconic villain in Malificent.
Sleeping Beauty is an elegant classic. With likable characters and a legendary villain, this film paved the way for exciting future animated movies.
What you get most out of this film is the breathtaking animation. That & the soundtrack is enough to call this a masterpiece.
There are many awesome concepts in this film that it is a shame that the story didn’t seem to work well. The art style is based on medieval tapestry drawings and looks amazing. The music is all Tschikovsky from his 1890 ballet of the same title. They also upped the game on widescreen and stereo sound (6 tracks) for the movie going audience. Unfortunately, no one went to see the film and it lost money at the box office and set princess films back until The Little Mermaid in 1989. The story is a little off, as the main protagonists of the story seem to be the three good fairies and not Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) herself. The prince does get more to say and do than his predecessors and the villain really steals the show. Maleficent is the best Disney villain, she knows she is evil and loves every minute of it, while being completely regal in action. While she can also lose her cool at the drop of a dime. A movie worth your time.
The fairies caried this film for me. The animation is so stellar and it still holds up to this day! The fantasy theme is still so perfect! And honestly there’s a lot to like here. Only problem is that out of all the old ass Disney movies this one has definitely aged the weirdest. It’s definitely one of the weaker Disney princess movies in my opinion. Still, really good and stuff.
It is overrated, in my opinion. Worth a watch, but is very Clichè
Magnificent. The leading feature cartoon movie of it's time. Superbly imaginative graphics and an outstanding musical score. Probably the best movie Disney ever made.
Classic Disney, the way it SHOULD be. Wholesome, magical, traditional and with the most beautiful hand painted scenes. Perfection.
The best Disney princess movie, in my opinion. The music is fantastic, the animation is visually entertaining, the characters are legendary, and has the greatest villain of all time, Maleficent. Highly recommend it! It's a shame it wasn't a big hit in its time
