The Cutting Edge Reviews
Paul Michael Glaser did good here. DB Sweeney and Moira Kelly truly shines here in character. True classic in so many senses. Great cinematography and expertly written. Nice to watch
Great movie. Great acting. DB Sweeney at his finest. This movie stands the test of time.
An instant classic. Moira Kelly is beautiful and fiery. DB Sweeney is perfect. This is 90s film at its absolute best.
Moira Kelly, the late Roy Dotrice, Terry O' Quinn, and DB Sweeney and directed by Paul Michael Glaser Kate Moseley is the figure skating champion while Doug Dorsey is the ice hockey all-star King of the rink and America's ice queen couldn't be more opposite from one another Both of them hit blocks in their respective careers She's denied her gold medal so her coach Anton needs to find her a suitable partner and her father is pushing too hard He's lost his peripheral vision making his inability to play again 2 years pass by and they bump into each other again struggling to make a comeback Anton has the crazy idea of teaming both Kate and Doug in an ice skating competition They butt heads nonstop but over time learn to respect each other's craft Kate also comes to terms with how she threw all of her potential away and wonders why she kept sticking to the sport; because she wanted or because her father wanted to Yes a lot of this is cheesy making it a challenge to blend two genres together Yet the appeal of the leads is the sticking point plus the skating sequences are filmed terrifically I was expecting a straight up underdog story yet many iconic moments still stand out Two things even benefited from this; No one fully executed the Pamchenko, the couple's impossible signature move on the ice but it looked incredible to see the filmmakers pull off something so complicated The toe pick catch phrase became ubiquitous after the film was released too A very likable sports comedy/ romance | will admit
Buckle up for a 90s classic packed with charm, laughs, and enough heart to melt even the iciest rink! The Cutting Edge does admittedly throw realism out the window (training an adult hockey player into a world-class figure skater? Defying the laws of physics with impossible throws? We won't dwell on that!). Sure, the training montages are pure fantasy, but they're also infectiously inspiring. You'll root for this mismatched pair as they push their limits, discover hidden depths, and learn that love conquers all, even physics-defying throws. I simply love this movie! I really recommend it.
I thought the movie was well written. With a decent plot, good, comedy relieve, and an end that leaves you happy.

Classic romance really funny and exciting. The stars are also fantastic.
If this movie has a better known cast, it would have been a bigger hit. If you like romantic comedies, then you have come to right place. Opposites attract in a believable way, with witty banter to boot. You will pull for them all the way.
I've seen this movie a couple of times. It's pretty good.
This is one of my go-to, rainy-days-on-the-couch movies. I know, it's just a little rom-com, but there is magic in this film. It is a triumphant story, as any sports film is - and yes, figure skating IS a sport. It's about passion for a common goal, and of course it's about these two falling for each other. In my opinion, DB Sweeney and Moira Kelly were never better. Do yourself a favor and discover this movie all over again.
One of my favorites of 1992, great chemistry between the two characters, funny moments ... all around feel good movie!
This dramedy was funny and dramatic at the same time. D.B Sweeney and Moira Kelly did a fantastic job in this figure skating movie. The story of the movie was great and it never got tedious. It's about two different people that don't get along but have to work together to try and accomplish a goal that is hard to reach, but they accomplish that and in the process fall in love. That's what makes this movie not only great, but a classic. Check it out if you haven't seen this movie yet.
This is my personal favorite movie of all time. It has everything, the sequels do not hold a candle to this one. Toe pick
Grew up to this movie, has good humor and drama. The acting is good, actors really get into role that seems realistic. The Story is well played all the way to the end. Great movie 👍
A perfect blend of comedy, romance, and drama. The chemistry of the two main characters is undeniable. I can watch this again and again.
One of my personal favorite RomComs. I love the two main leads, they have great chemistry and wonderful banter. The ending seemed a little rushed. It is a lovely film overall and I highly recommended.
Cutting Edge is one of those films that didn't get appreciated in its time. It is a fun, silly and heart-warming romp. The skating and music are exceptional. If you've never seen it, it's worth a watch. If you have seen it, it's a perfect film to explore again.
