The Mask Reviews
Jim Carrey's energy, charisma, and humor are what carry this movie. A lot of things may not have aged well, but it's still a fun and somewhat silly movie that I believe shouldn't be taken seriously.
This film and character are legendary!
It's party time! P A R T why? Because I gotta
It's zany, but funny. Jim Carrey usually does a bang-up job. The effects are slightly dated but it fits for the overall comic tone.
This was Cameron Diaz's first movie. She went on to star in many other comedy cult classics. This film came out in 1994. This is probably one of Jim Carrey's best movies. Carrey as Stanley Ipkiss is a mild-mannered banker. That's looking for the bigger better deal. He has a chance to be larger than life when he finds a mysterious mask. When he puts it on his life is never the same. This movie is a perfect display of Jim Carrey's comedic talent & timing. Amy Yasbeck plays Peggy Brandt an ambitious reporter. Ben Stein known for his deadpan humor has a small role in the film. He's always fun to watch. Even the dog Milo is doggone funny when he gets his turn to wear the mask. This is definitely one of the funniest movies of the '90s. No matter how many times you see it it's still LOL. The only criticism is that there are so many movies that feel the need to have a screeching cat scenes. There is one scene where the mask is making balloon animals. After he discards one of the balloons. It lands on a screeching cat. The mask making balloon animals for hooligans is purrfect. But screeching cats is paws-sitively cliche & very catty.
Really funny movie, overall feel is great.
The movie has some very funny moments. The acting and writing is great and it is a classic for a reason.
When I first saw The Mask as a kid, I found it more bizarre than funny, even a little unsettling. But rewatching it now, I’m blown away by how groundbreaking it is. Jim Carrey’s performance is nothing short of iconic—his comedic timing and physicality are unparalleled. The scene where he dances with the cops in a zany musical number is absurd and laugh-out-loud hilarious. What stands out even more on a rewatch is the art direction—bold, vibrant, and way ahead of its time. The music is just as memorable, perfectly complementing the film’s chaotic energy. While it has its share of quirks, The Mask remains a unique blend of comedy, fantasy, and action that’s impossible to forget.
"The Mask," featuring Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz, is an iconic film that perfectly blends humor and creativity. This hilarious movie exceeds all expectations and captivates audiences on multiple levels. The director's vision was to highlight Jim Carrey's comedic talents while having Cameron Diaz provide a wonderful counterbalance. The result is nothing short of fantastic; it offers a rich foundation for both character development and engaging storytelling. I found the comedic elements to be spot-on, never overwhelming but always effective. The film evokes genuine laughter and joy, showcasing a vibrant and imaginative narrative that lingers in your memory long after viewing. Many of its catchy songs and memorable one-liners will stick with you. I wholeheartedly recommend watching this film!
First of all, how can you NOT like this movie? It's Jim Carrey, the God of comedy. His style really fits into this film. Worth your time if you're a Jim Carrey fan.
Don’t Underestimate Jim Carrey he’s a magnificent actor and he reigns supreme in the comedy franchise he smoked the movies and whoever disagrees hands on your knees
Jim absolutely "Carrey's" this movie as he's the only actor I could see in this role. But to be fair the other performances aren't bad and their were some cool scenes, overall good movie.
Still my favorite movie ever
When I watched it as a kid, I just found it bizarre, maybe even a bit traumatizing. Rewatching it now, I didn’t expect it to be such a groundbreaking film. Jim Carrey? I can only say he’s the best comedy actor of all time! The part where he dances with the cops in a musical-style scene was so absurdly hilarious. Oh, and yes! The music in this film is fantastic, and the art direction is way ahead of its time. 8.5/10.
Nice comedy. Great performance.
I think this movie was a masterpiece. The mix of themes wasn't the best but was still greater than the sum of their parts (comedy, romance, banditism, struggling ordinary male and mythology). I think this movie would have been better as a Rated R by making Dorian more brutal and have more violence in his scenes. I think the directors really wanted PG-13 when they really shouldn't have. Mr. Carrey did phenomenal, Mrs. Diaz did phenomenal, Mrs. Yasbeck, and Mr. Greene did exceptionally phenomenal (and should have had much more screentime), all of Dorian's Henchmen did Phenomenal. This movie should have been 3 and a half hours. There was a lot of depth to the characters and could have had much more depth. More screentime with Dorian's Mark character would have been great. This movie gets an A+ for the emotional intensity of every single one of their actors and actresses.
I'm a huge Jim Carey fan but even as a child, I felt slightly let down by The Mask. Probably would have been better without the predictable love angle and evil villain nonsense. Having The Mask cause carnage for 90 minutes would have been much better.
Goffy film and really funny. Highground
