Rob Roy Reviews
90% historical nonsense..rob roy was no hero as depicted in this..he stole cattle and ripped off other's regularly...the real Cunningham was not english but Scottish...they also never dueled nor ever met...Jessica langes Scottish accent was the true crime here...Neesons not much better...typical Scottish perfect, English all bad yarn...ignore all that and it's watchable
Forget "period correct", it is a MOVIE! Brilliantly done by all actors involved. Stunning photography and scenery.
Very entertaining, Tim Roth is a hissable villain, indeed all the acting is much above par. As historic fact terrible! But if you're a student of history read a book. Och aye.
A story of honor and love holding strong bonds in a time of deceit and greed. Wonderfully acted period piece. Definitely worth the watch. Tension builds as it rolls and bounds it's way to a edge of your seat climax. Good piece of cinema hostory
If you want a glimpse of Scottish history, life in the 1700s, then this is for you. You'll see how the peasants (normal people) were done over by the Rich (mainly English). And the acting is incredible!
Neeson and Lange. Castles and Kilts. Pretty good swordfights and villains that are easy to hate.
Rob Roy is one of the best movies from the 90s and that is because it has some great actors. Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange have developed into legends in their own right and both have magnetic attraction that is evident in their pairing within the lush and rugged landscape of the Scottish wilderness. With beautiful scenery and a passionate dynamic in this coupling - the movie is thrilling and lovers of historical adventure films like Braveheart are sure to enjoy it. This movie is a movie-goers delight with a phenomenal back story and great sequences to carry through a telling of adventure, romance and heroism about a place uniquely and largely regarding history easily forgotten and not often told.
Title: Rob Roy: Liam Neeson's Resilience Amidst Tim Roth's Deception In "Rob Roy," Liam Neeson's McGregor is pushed to his limits when a loan debacle orchestrated by Tim Roth's devious character threatens his family's livelihood. As McGregor battles against Roth's treachery, his resilience shines through, showcasing a determined spirit that refuses to be broken. Neeson's portrayal of McGregor's comeback is nothing short of inspiring, highlighting his unwavering resolve in the face of adversity. Roth's portrayal of the antagonist adds a layer of tension, making McGregor's triumph all the more satisfying. "Rob Roy" is a captivating story of redemption, with Neeson's performance as McGregor serving as a powerful reminder that even in the darkest of times, resilience and determination can lead to victory.
Roth is wonderful. This is so much better in every way than that Braveheart nonsense. Nothing to criticize if I'm honest. Loved it.
My goodness this was boring. It took so long to get going and then it was over. There were so many opportunities for more action and to connect the story more fully to the background of the Jacobite Rising of 1715, two years after the events of this movie. Instead, I was just bored for two and half hours except when he splits that guy with a sword.
The greatest 02 hours: and 19 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best films of the 90’s. Terrific story and pacing. Excellent writing—with a number of memorable, biting exchanges. Epic cast. Moving score. And a bonafide fantastic, unique final sword duel. Perhaps even besting ‘Braveheart’ from the same year—but with a far more intimate scope.
Some strong performances and not much else.
Some of the acting is laughable, but the villains easily make up for it with their slithery undercutting of our hero. The story and setting are quite good in this serviceable tale of revenge and sacrifice.
I remember watching this moving when it first came out in theaters, but recently rewatched it on dvd. I can strongly recommend it, especially in the light of Outlander series on Netflix as a good scottish flix, the movie has beautiful visuals, good dialogue and an intense plot that builds up to the finale. The sword fight at the very end of the movie may be the one of the best duels in film history. The movie honors the strong clan integrity and tradition. Tim Roth plays one of the best villains in a movie, which adds to the weight of the final sword duel as Tim Roth and Liam Neeson square off. This is entertainment!
Jessica Lange and Liam Neeson are wonderful. One of the best villains in all of movie history. Great historical drama. Wonderful soundtrack.
Tim Roth and Liam Neeson make it brilliant. Some secondary/reserve grade actors don't know their place. 9/10
Rob Roy may be the red-headed stepchild of Scottish historical dramas released in 1995, but it offers an interesting story and engaging characters. Tim Roth, in particular, is horrifically captivating as Archibald Cunningham. I'm glad I finally saw this film.
Enjoyable flick and good period piece.
