Although the original French film was much more suspenseful, this one is still very good. The surprise ending alone is worth the price of admission.

If you've never been exposed to this plot, then there is still great fun with this film, even with all this murky, dark photography.

There are problems with Stone's performance, which lacks the requisite ambiguity to make sense of the plot. But Adjani carries Diabolique by creating a Mia who is susceptible to any hint that the dead man may somehow have risen
