101 Dalmatians Reviews
No están mala como su secuela, pero aburre a pesar de la excelente participación de Cruella de Vil.
Not as bad as I had expected
Disney's best live action remake of the animated realm, easily. Glenn Close is too cute and adorable as Cruella De Vil, the human casting and characters are surprisingly interesting and likable. It's not a 100% shot for shot, line for line remake, and I appreciate it for it. They're changes in this movie, which the animals do NOT talk, thankfully, and the backgrounds are very atmospheric and lovely
Not really exciting a complete disaster
**101 Dalmatians (1996) – A Spot-On Adaptation** Some movies just *stick* with you, and this live-action *101 Dalmatians* is one of them. As a kid, I watched this more than the animated original, and honestly? It *still* holds up. Glenn Close *is* Cruella de Vil—campy, unhinged, and utterly fabulous. The fact that they used real dogs instead of CGI? Chef’s kiss. The cast is stacked, and they all *look* the part, making this one of the best animated-to-live-action adaptations Disney has ever done. It doesn’t try to be more than a fun family film, and that’s exactly why it works. Nostalgia definitely plays a role here, but even without it, this movie is a delight. A little over-the-top? Sure. But in the best way possible. It’s charming, funny, and, dare I say, *timeless*. If you haven’t revisited it in a while, do yourself a favor—you won’t be barking up the wrong tree.
This is where the live action atrocities began.
Wait was this the very first of all the live action Disney remakes that continue on to today, well this is an odd but slightly better start because as much as it’s interesting and also funny it also kind of goes against the tone of the original by bassically making the villain the main charachter ( something we saw already with the first terminator ) and making it feel more like a home alone knock off than a 101 Dalmatians movie bassically the movies looks and lighting have the same as that of the first three home alone films ( yess I am including the third one which I actually found a hilariously entertaining guilty pleasure ) and it definetly has traps for the burglars that resemble marv Harry and those four from the third film. When they try to catch the dogs they get messed up such as slipping on a magazine, a bisons head falling onto one of their mouths and heck even cruella gets into traps when messing with farm animals in a farm as if she is thinking the puppies were there, the scenes feel also intimidating and kind of scary it looks as though Chris Columbus and John Hughes made it. If nothing else it’s worth a watch if you want to have a fun time burstin out in laughter to the ridiculousness of it all just like how I ironically did with home alone 3 and another thing this has in common with home alon it looks as though it takes place during Christmas or in a cold snowy area it’s that noticeable 6/10
This movie would not have been possible without the talented Glenn Close. Always fun to watch this and see Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) and Mark Williams (Arthur Wesley) in the same scene. Cruella De Vil: [to a racoon who has just stolen her hat and is wearing it] Darling, red isn't your color. Give me the hat. Give me the hat, or you will become a hat. GIVE IT TO ME!
This is Disney’s first live-action adaptation of one of their animated classics. There are some things to like in this film. Glenn Close’s performance as Cruella De Vil is a wonderful over-the-top villain. Hugh Laurie and Mark Williams are good as Jasper and Horace. The other actors do fine, but they don’t have much screen time to develop any character. I think the movie does a good job of giving personality to the animals, especially Pongo and Perdy. Speaking of Perdy, I’m not sure why, but it bothered me greatly that they changed Pertitta’s name to Perdy. Things I greatly missed from the original were the helper animals from the farm. They are in this movie, but there are so many more animals that help rescue the puppies that there isn’t time to get to know them like in the original. I really missed Sgt. Tibbs, the cat that helps rescue the puppies from the house. Maybe a cat was harder to put in that role. Also, the car chase at the end of the animated movie doesn’t happen in this one and that was a highlight from that movie for me. There is some good stuff here, but I don’t think it is for everyone
Still one of the best live action remakes. I believe it matches the feeling of the animated movie perfectly.
If only we knew how horrible Disney remakes would become back then.
Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil is iconic. Love Jeff Daniels in this. Honestly, still one of the best live action remakes from Disney.
Despite Glenn Closes' standout performance that made Cruella de Vil iconic, the live action take of the classic animated 101 Dalmations film seemingly lacked anything magical or charming.
Before Disney went all in remaking its own animated features into live-action blockbusters, we got the occasional attempt at doing just that. One of them was 1996's 101 Dalmatians starring Jeff Daniels, Joely Richardson and Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil. Written and produced by John Hughes, this 101 Dalmatians was a significant success at the box-office and prompted a sequel several years later. This first installment follows game developer Roger (Daniels) and fashion designer Anita (Richardson) as they meet and soon get married before their dogs are stolen by the fur-obsessed Cruella De Vil, who is desperate to make a dress out of their 15 puppies. The film plays out like a romantic comedy for its first half and, while not terribly ground-breaking, this is done pretty well. Though, Greg and Anita getting engaged the very first day they meet doesn't help make an already rather ludicrous story seem any less so. The dalmatians are as cute as you'd expect and dog lovers should approve of their portrayal, though later CGI shots have not aged well and, in fact, could have easily been excised altogether. The film's second half is essentially just a rescue mission as the dalmatians alert... every animal on the planet, it seems, to help locate and free the stolen puppies. What started as a light yet competent rom-com devolves into Home Alone-style shenanigans as Cruella's silly henchmen (played by Hugh Laurie and Mark Williams) get tricked time and time again by all sorts of critters, leading to various slapstick mishaps. Cruella herself finally joins in and suffers the same fate. Greg and Anita are nowhere to be seen until the last minute and it's almost like the film got bored of them as characters entirely, making 90% of the film's first half feel irrelevant. Glenn Close is fantastic throughout as the show-stealing Cruella De Vil, sporting the most extravagant outfits and haircuts, cackling maniacally and being generally deliciously evil. It's just a shame that such a great character was not given a better and more consistent movie to shine in, and let's not even talk about the even goofier sequel. There are some sweet and funny moments here and there in this retelling of the classic story but this is an uneven and altogether unimpressive effort that starts off well but ends in a complete farce. Kids should enjoy its simplicity and cartoonish zaniness but everyone else might regret not watching the far more charming and memorable animated original instead. Lightweight adaptation.
Glenn Close. The only reason to watch this film. And she is phenomenal.
This is reality Disney movie
It's not magical, but one can respect the updated times in this live-action 101 Dalmatians, and Close puts on a good show. The rest is kind of boring.
Dark, fantastically performed and a generally fun time, Disney's '101 Dalmatians' remake is a blast for the whole family to enjoy.
Still better than most adaptations. Very funny and beautiful cinematography. Also Glenn Close is wicked like Cruella, just a brilliant performance.
It's ok. The villain is the best thing in this but can be over the top too much at times but above average. The acting overall is ok with generic parents and dumb villains. The dogs are ok as well but they don't really have that much depth to them. The cinematography is ok with very basic shots and some memorable locations like the Mansion. The music is not that good as it is too overused I felt and way too over the top. The editing and pacing are ok enough but man this feels like the first 20-30 minutes is more about the humans falling in love than the dogs and than we just kind of forget about them completely the rest of the film. This feels like a human love story and a kids animal adventure movie edited together and it feels watered down. The whole falling in love of the two do owners felt very contrived and rushed. The movie has a lot of slap stick humor in it that's ok enough. Honestly, if a little kid likes dogs than they would like this but otherwise skip this. It doesn't do anything really wrong and nothing terribly right.
