Breakdown Reviews
A 90 minutes of pure suspenseful thriller ever.
I picked this VHS tape up from Goodwill for $0.99 plus tax. It’s probably one of the most suspenseful movies I’ve ever seen.
Grab some popcorn and a beer for this thrilling non stop action movie. I can't believe I've not seen this before. Very enjoyable, fast paced with superb real stuntwork and great all round performances. Excellent
Simple but effective and undeservedly forgotten little 90's kidnap thriller. Recommended.
How in the heck does this thing have a 69% audience score? I just watched red letter media and they informed me about this movie, I just watched it for the first time in 2025 the year of Our Lord. This effing movie is incredible. No stupid '90s catchphrases and Bare Bones action. And even though this thing has a 90% audience score we must realize that, also, there are dumb people in this world. Go see the movie.
Firmly gripping despite taking place in broad daylight. An effective thriller built on a simple storyline. Certain shots and moments have stuck with me over the years, and upon re-viewing it stood the test of time. It's a very good movie that does more with less. One of my favorites in the genre.
Breakdown - 10/10. Decided to watch this, considering that everyone is saying that Vidaamuyarchi is going to be a remake of this film. And I’m glad I watched this, because, it’s a fantastic movie! Super shocked this didn’t do as well as I thought it would’ve at the box office, but who cares! This a mystery thriller that just so happens to be a horror movie in circumstance. Whatever horror stories you can think of in terms of being stranded in a desert highway, and being kidnapped when trying to get help, then that’s the gist of this film. Kurt Russell (we really need to put more respect on that man’s name cause he’s fantastic here) is an everyday man who is thrust into a horrible situation here, dealing with his wife being taken away when he thought a truck driver was trying to assist the two while being stranded roadside. Honestly, its the trust he puts on this total stranger that is the most baffling thing about this movie (but I guess its a 90’s thing cause no way in hell would I or many others trust a stranger just like that). What ensues is a deadly and entertaining cat and mouse game of this man trying with all the will in his soul to get his wife back to safety. What I love about this movie is that it gradually gains tension and suspense. As it does, it shifts gears (no pun intended) from mystery to thriller. Its a damn shame Jonathan Mostow’s career kinda got derailed by Terminator 3 (I liked it for its ending, but I could see why it caused a downward trajectory for him), because he knows exactly how to exact great tension from the story. If Vidaamuyarchi is half as good as this, I’ll be happy!
a great thriller movie with great performances from kurt russell and jt walsh
Living up to its reputation as "the best thriller you've never seen", Breakdown manages to balance both suspense and some genuinely thrilling, well-directed action with some really amazing stunts with a good performance from Kurt Russell as more of an everyman rather than a big macho action hero and some memorably despicable villains (must...resist...urge...to...make...Lost...joke...at...that...asshole...Earl's...expense) resulting in a truly underrated film from the guy who would go on to direct Terminator 3. Quite the difference in quality, huh? People might not agree with Chris Stuckmann's changes to his movie reviews but if I didn't stick around, I never would've heard of this movie. He is still good for something.
An Action Thriller Classic. You think looking at it that this is just a generic run of the mill thriller that's maybe a step above made for 온라인카지노추천 type stuff. It's such a big suprise how very well made it is all aorund. It always stays focused on Kurt who does a great job in this despite having such a simple character to work with. The villians are good also though there isn't much depth to any of them and the can feel like there jus sort of there. The wife is ok and is kind of just there as well, but everyone else does a pretty good job. The stunts are really good and memorable. It takes lots of twists and turns and if there is one problem I can point too here, it's the fact it never really has a plot twist or goes to explain "Why" she is taken. It explains why kind of but it's very surface level stuff and it builds up quite well, but relies on an action payoff rather than a Hitchcock style plot twist which with so many twists and turns you think there will be something twisted like Wicker Man type stuff and there just isn't. It's 100% straight forward. Though it's so well made it doesn't matter. Anyone who is a fan of any actors in this, the director, thrillers, or action-thrillers will like this.
Outstanding film and the very definition of THRILLER! Russell once agains hits it out of the park, JT Walsh is as bad as they get and Mostow did a sensation directing job.
Nobody likes a breakdown but what happens when it could happen to you or worse have your whole happiness breaking down as it were? Kurt Russell in a backroad thriller along the likes of 'The Hitcher' and 'Duel' directed by Jonathan Mostow Jeff and his wife are driving to move to San Diego During the trip though their car breaks down and they get help from a trucker Redd Barr but that turns out to be a mistake Jeff's wife suddenly disappears and he suspects Redd is the culprit but the trucker claims he's never met the man Jeff tries to get others to help him but with no solid evidence everyone thinks he's losing his mind Now Jeff has to track down Redd praying his wife is still alive Is it just the trucker screwing with Jeff or is there more than one party in on it? This is thrilling, suspenseful, nail biting and psychological When we learn what's actually going on it's really horrifying how it reflects something lifelike Jeff goes all in to save his wife with gun fights car chases and high octane thrills It's definitely slow in the beginning but picks up after things unfold Really uneven but shows any ordinary person can be in extreme peril to any degree A very taught thriller by Jonathan Mostow
Is so good. I saw it for the first time when I was a child and I never forgot this film. I watched it again today and I have the same opinion: it's so good!
Kurt Russel thriller with some amazing stunt work. It definitely has the feel of a ‘90's movie but it's fun.
Story is short and simple. The wife disappears and Kurt Russell needs to find her in the desert back country. Simple, taunt and gripping. It isn't Shakespeare, but I am not sure why these movies cannot be written anymore. There was a very similar film recently - Last Seen Alive - which has a very similar plot, but not as gripping as this one.
One of the films that stays in memory for decades. Gives you a bad feeling about redneck american highway idyllic cliches... good as Hitcher-the highway killer Original
This is a solid film, but this review is to address all of you idiots that casually give away the entire plot of a movie without mentioning that your review is almost nothing but spoilers. You're all dipshits, and people hate you because you're too stupid to even acknowledge that nobody needs your pathetic failed attempt at critiquing a movie when all it does is ruin a potentially good experience. Go away.🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
It was more than a expected.....8 out of 10
Without a doubt one of the best. I've seen it at least 25 times.
Great action, suspense and drama. Everything you want in a movie! Highly recommend.
