I think it's OK. It builds up great but does not deliver much.

I read some appealing reviews, but I didn't like the movie at all. I stopped looking after 20 minutes. I experienced this movie as childish with irritating and egoistic persons who lead an unrealistic and not fulfilling life. For me it's a boring movie with no depth and humor. Waste of time

Really great movie, one of those "must watch" type of movies. Great acting & segments, iconic moments, screams early 2000's & is a great throwback for us older folks.

Kinda realistic about the adult life. We are all trying our best. This movie remind it again. Thank you

An All Time Classic. Phenomenal Acting led by John Cusack, this film belongs to him and is only matched by Jack Black. Everyone else is really good and has tons of char and chemistry with really witty humor. The music is awesome and is really memorable and catchy throughout. The editing is masterful and this is paced beautifully always focused on Rob. The cinematography is very good, the camerawork is solid and the Record Store is a memorable place. It's nothing fancy but its focused on just allowing the actors to shine and convey the emotion beautifully. This balances humor, romance, and drama with just the right amount of seriousness to keep it from being tongue in cheek. The 4th wall breaking fits beautifully and coupled with the soundtrack gives this a really unique identity and a really sincere story. Everyone should give this a try once

This film is pretty good. John Cusack gives a really good performance and Jack Black is a great supporting act, they both bring the comedy into this film. The story is all over the place but it's still an entertaining one. It reminds me of the show "How I Met Your Mother", I'm guessing that show got some inspiration from this film but that could just be me. The music in this film is good too. Overall, its a good comedy that is worth a watch.

Hilarious film of self-doubt, rejection, the unanswered questions of life and relationships, music and Cosby sweaters. This movie still holds up well after 20+ years! Has it really been that long?! Rob can break the 4th wall with us, but he can't break down the wall keeping him out of long-term relationships.

Just. 😐 👍🏼👎🏼 This movie started well, but I found myself losing interest when it all became too much of the same thing… When record store owner Rob Gordon gets dumped by his girlfriend, Laura, because he hasn't changed since they met, he revisits his top five breakups of all time in an attempt to figure out what went wrong. As Rob seeks out his former lovers to find out why they left, he keeps up his efforts to win Laura back.

Saw this movie a few times over the yrs ! It holds up well , the series reboot with Zoe kravites is less than desirable.

Great book, awful movie. No one involved in this is remotely cool enough to pull it off and so the whole thing feels researched and superficial.... It really needed someone like Jim Jarmusch in charge....Instead it's a John Cusack vanity project that gives us nothing more than an outsiders impression of the scene...he also manages to turn the books exploration of loneliness and melancholy into an exercise in general whininess. Plus it was made at that annoying period in time when tobacco sponsors insisted that every character had to be a chain smoker.

As a lover of indie music and film, this ticked all the boxes. Amazing soundtrack as John Cusack plays the obsessed, love sick hero of the story. Nick Hornbys book has been incredibly well transferred onto the screen and will remain with you for years to come.

Timeliness at the turn of the century reflects a generational shift. Subtly hinted in Stephen Frear's comedic romance being speared as humanely satirical through John Cusack's continuous charismatic typecast along the lines of a hopeless romantic evolved cynically and humbly, joined by an excellent cast in their cinematic early years with appreciative knowledge towards music within an intellectually solid script. (B+)

Wish I would had watched this when I am much younger.

A huge slew of extraordinary actors for a lousy flick. There is no real thesis to this movie, nor a real story, a credible script or real directing. In fact, if the actors had been left to their own device, it would have been a lot better. You have to give it to John Cusack to pretend that he is saying something incredibly interesting while uttering totally empty words.
