Drew Gregory Autostraddle The stakes are higher than other recent industry satires because meaningful art is bumping up against the broken film industry. Apr 15, 2025 Full Review Keith Watson Daily Telegraph (UK) The Studio is no hatchet job; a palpable love of the world it’s poking fun at shines through in every scene. Rated: 5/5 Apr 4, 2025 Full Review Tim Glanfield Times (UK) There has been no shortage of films and shows throughout the years that aim to prick the pomposity of the film game or satirise the silliness of it... but what makes The Studio stand out is that it genuinely seems to come from a place of love for cinema. Rated: 5/5 Mar 29, 2025 Full Review Natalia Marcos El Pais (Spain) Keep an eye on The Studio, which is already positioning itself as a strong contender to challenge Hacks at the awards. [Full review in Spanish] Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) For any movie lover or any fan of laughing yourself dizzy, The Studio is a chaotic oasis. Apr 20, 2025 Full Review Tara Ariano Cracked If you’ve been waiting for the heir to Veep that The Franchise, from the same creator (Armando Iannucci), somehow wasn’t: it’s here. Clotilde Solange R I reaaallly enjoyed this little gem of a comedy ! Seth Rogen is amazing in this role, i love all the absurd - comic satire on Hollywood, seriously, it makes me laugh a lot ! it is brilliant, comic, fun, light, and energetic! I highly recommend! And to be honest - it makes me empathize more with Studio heads after that :DDD though they can be arses, I love this cinema world !!! (PS : the Medical Gala episode is just puuure gold, delicious watching and laughing! ) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/24/25 Full Review Andrew H I usually agree with the audience but I'm totally on the side of the critics. I don't get a pretentious vibe at all, is that possible with anything Seth Rogan? Maybe it's niche in that a lot of people actually aren't interested in a satire on the inner workings of Hollywood, but I can't get enough. There's moments that have made me audibly laugh out loud, especially from Ike Barinholtz. There's not really supposed to be a narrative throughout the episodes. It's more a sitcom than a drama to me, which I don't mind at all. I think you should give it at least 4 episodes before bailing. I'd love for them to make a second season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/24/25 Full Review Vincent A It seems self-aware which is great. Making fun of Hollywood is also great and seems especially relevant after the winners of the 2024 Oscars. That said, it's too slap-stick which I always find cheap and lame. Maybe the physical comedy is meant to compensate for the lack of engagement? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/24/25 Full Review Conrad B I’ve watched six episodes so far and I love this! Watching Seth Rogen explained to a table full of children’s cancer doctors that his diarrhea-zombie movie is art, and that what he does is just as important as what they do, is funny because it’s so patently Ludacris, while at the same time being a sentiment we’ve heard expressed on Hollywood awards shows. I think some of the bad reviews are coming from Hollywood people who are offended because they’re being ridiculed, and some by viewers who are so disgusted by Hollywood people that they can’t laugh at them. Most of us will get the joke. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review T K I gave it a shot because many critics praised it, but the Rotten Tomatoes audience score told a different story, and I can see why. I couldn’t even finish the first episode. The premise might’ve worked if it delivered sharp satire or genuine laughs, but instead it was just over-the-top and loud, with no real nuance or humour, just not for me. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Mimi O The characters are like foul mouthed, spoiled, obnoxious screaming children! And the storylines are not interesting. It is a frenetic mess. I really enjoy Seth Rogen in his other shows and movies so I was very disappointed in The Studio. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Read all reviews
