Shaft Reviews
This is really a totally different creation, and it ends up being almost as good for totally different reasons.

Super-empty but super-cool thrills.

While there's time for action and chaos, the detective work is sloppy, resulting in plenty of collateral damage and destruction; it's all brawn and no brains.

This is just not a good movie.

Yeah, apparently John Singleton and Samuel L. Jackson did not get along on set...probably why this movie's such a mess.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 7, 2019
Samuel L Jackson, very cool in a wardrobe designed by Armani, has the necessary presence to carry off this slick homage to the icon of 1970s blaxploitation from director John Singleton.

doesn't have the same historical impact as the original .... but entertaining

Packs a ton of style and solid laughs, but in the end, it's mostly a hollow experience...

Shaft quickly splits into two different movies, and only one of them fully succeeds.

The primary focus of the film, and the real reason we're here, is to watch Samuel Jackson sink his teeth into the Shaft's trash-talking dialogue.

Samuel L. Jackson, who broke out of the pack in Pulp Fiction, fits the role and his leather Armani coat as though it's tailor-made. He's the man, and we can dig it.
