Evolution Reviews

Apr 29, 2025

Block out the haters. Evolution RULES! It is to Ghostbusters what Futurama is to The Simpsons. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and you shouldn’t either.

Much underrated film , it’s a cult classic. Great fun movie

Evolution is a decent Ghostbusters-like sci-fi comedy original from the same director, Ivan Reitman, may not have achieved the same level of acclaim as a fresh action comedy, however, despite its weak plot and forgettable characters, it still holds its own with some of its talented cast members delivering comedic performances and decent CGI. It’s a worthwhile watch for fans of such films. Grading: C

For a film that dates back to 2001, I really liked the approach and the modernity of the special effects. I recommend it for a good laugh in the evening.

It’s a silly romp through science fiction. Cast is definitely solid but the direction and script I think are the weakest parts. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from watching it but don’t enter into the film with Oscar worthy expectations. Good Saturday night comedy to kill some couch surfing time with a date.

I’m reviewing a movie from 2001 right now because if I can save anyone else from watching this then I have to try. My boyfriend put it on for a relaxing Sunday movie it felt like I was being punished the entire time. It’s truly bad. The story line is manageable bad sci-fi, hop skip jump fake science assumptions and illogical and silly actions. Honestly I love that kinda stuff! It is the writing that makes it unwatchable. My boyfriend normally has really good taste in movies so I didn’t say anything until we were very far in. I kept expecting some magical redeeming thing to occur. By the time I did it was too late, we were in it. Please, I beg of you, skip this if you don’t want to actively regret the past couple hours of your life.

A perfect weekend film

Iconic. I've seen this movie a thousand times by now. Excellent movie to show your kid so they grow a sense of humour. People out there are boring.

"Evolution" brought with it sky-high expectations, given my admiration for Ivan Reitman's previous works. The film boasts a stellar cast, and the premise is nothing short of great—a perfect blend of sci-fi and humor. The chemistry between David Duchovny and Julianne Moore is palpable, contributing to the movie's charm. The dialogue is laced with humor, adding an extra layer to the overall enjoyment. While the effects are decent, they manage to bring the extraterrestrial chaos to life effectively. The film exudes major Ghostbusters vibes but with a cosmic twist, creating a unique and entertaining experience. It might not reach the pinnacle of greatness, but it's undeniably fun and enjoyable. The idea of turning this into a 온라인카지노추천 show is tantalizing; the episodic format could explore the alien shenanigans with even more depth. "Evolution" may not be a masterpiece, but it certainly tickles the funny bone and leaves you wanting more extraterrestrial hilarity.

Just rewatched after a looong hiatus and have to say that this hasn't aged well at *all*. Casual jokes about paedophilia / inappropriate relationships with students, rampant sexism and borderline rapey dialogue ("she just needs a good humping" / "she's mine") and the farse of the *walk* after having a light colonoscopy (presented in possibly the most homophobic manner conceivable) nearly made me implode from cringe. One might say "lighten up" but really the script is just abysmal and reads like it was written by a 12 year old boy who thinks falling over for no reason, vaginas and farts are the pinnacle of humour.

Fun SciFi Comedy, Which holds up 20+ years later.

It's Ghostbusters meets Mn in Black and last time I've watched this movie was when I was a teenager. Watching it again and honestly, I've enjoyed the hell out of it. The perfect movie? No. It had plenty of humor that I enjoyed along with the conversation that everyone shares. The story does feel half backed but that's minor to me. The CGI that was used was okay while the way the aliens look and evolve are impressive. Hell, impressive enough to have an animated series sequel, for those who don't know. I recommend this is you're a Reitman fan since his involvement was just as much of a fun ride as Ghostbusters is along with Men in Black. 7/10.

Over 20 years old and it's not perfect but still a good time killer Missed it in theaters but I remember renting the vhs I actually saw parts of it in middle school Ivan Reitman combines sci-fi and laughs Two high school teachers Ira Kane and Harry Block stumble upon an alien organism that lands on earth in Arizona But it's spreads across their neighborhood changing and evolving on its own into many kinds of life forms Soon it'll be too late before it grows and kicks out the human population They also get help from Dr. Alison Reed from the CDC and Wayne Grey struggling to become a firefighter Love David Ducovnhy, Julianne Moore, Orlando Jones, and Sean-William Scott There are actually a decent amount of laughs given how nicely-timed the jokes are written Sure it aint a masterpiece like Reitman's most well-known outing but it has a delectable charm and some realistic science-fiction to go with it Love the two big cameos here too!

This film may not be revolutionary or particularly deep, it's all-star cast and both likeable and unlikable characters make for an entertaining film that has a number of both stylistic and comedic successes.

Evolution is pretty much Ghostbusters with aliens and, despite the main character being clearly written as basically a rehash of Bill Murray's character, it's hard not to watch this movie without thinking of The X-Files (it's really amusing to hear Mulder talk like Scully, him making scientific discoveries and all...not to mention the love interest being a redhead whose actresses name is a vowel off from a suspiciously similar pronunciation). And yet, while the influence is very obvious, Evolution was still an amusing film with some memorable comedic bits, a decent premise, unique & memorable creature designs and actors who seem to be having fun. Overall, this is no masterpiece but it kept me reasonably entertained...and it should also provide X-Philes their Mulder fix in the wake of David Duchovny's departure from the show the same year that this movie came out.

The film had potential to be good but the plot was weak and filled with cheap conveniences and unrealistic human reactions. The comedy was lacking, apart from the "prostate scene" with Orlando Jones there weren't any other times I laughed. There were quite a few actors I like in this but the acting felt phoned in. The early 2000's CGI doesn't hold up today but it's not that bad
