A movie is being made about a spree of murders in a Tokyo hotel in 1970. The killer was a professor who murdered his wife, many hotel guests and young daughter, Chisato. The director of the movie casts Nagisa Sugiura (Yûka) as the young daughter. Soon after landing the role, Nagisa begins to experience the murders as if they were occurring around her in present day.

A better-than-average supernatural horror mystery that never quite manages to conjure the level of terror and dread found in Shimizu's best work, but nonetheless succeeds thanks to its unconventional storytelling and abundance of creative scares. It's no Ju-On, but it's worth a watch.

Definitely "Grudge" feel for this Japanese tale about the reincarnation of a serial killing dad that can kill and film on a Super8. The overlapping of stories is pretty smart, and dolls are creepy, but the 20 minutes of constant fake stumbling by the actress at the end was a dud.

Not as good as I was hoping for given the director's filmography, but still enjoyable enough. Not as scary as I was hoping it would be. The plot is decent. The acting is really good. Overall I enjoyed the movie but not enough to recommend it.

The fact that many of the negative reviews for this say it doesn't make sense is laughable. Pay attention, America. This clever and disturbing Japanese Horror gem may be highly stylized and "weird," but it's not that hard to "get" if your attention to detail is even slightly below average.

The visual storytelling in this movie blew me away. Shimizu and his team were so very good at their job. However, there were parts of the story that held this movie back. If the writing had matched the quality of visual story telling, this movie would be phenomenal.
